The 1st International Body Music Festival kicks off with the US debut tour of BARBATUQUES - 12 member Body Music ensemble from São Paulo, Brazil -- in collaboration with Oakland's SLAMMIN All-Body Band -- a cappella voices, beatboxing and Body Music. In addition to national and international artists still being added, the IBMF will showcase traditional Body Musics practiced in the culturally rich communities of the San Francisco Bay Area. The International Body Music Festival is produced by Crosspulse, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the performance, recording and education of cross-cultural rhythmic arts.

Before people were hollowing logs and striking rocks, they were using their bodies to stomp, clap, sing, snap and grunt their musical ideas. Music you can see, dance you can hear. There has never before been a festival devoted to this global artform.
