I started out as a drummer playing in several bands throughout my schooling years. Following graduation from college I took at a 10 year sabbatical from playing music. Lived in NYC so the Drum Set was no longer feasible in the huge New York City studios!
In 2002 I embarked on a second musical journey in my life as I started to play the guitar. Right away it became apparent to me that I was destined to be a singer/songwriter rather than just a musician. I simply could not play the guitar without singing my own lyrics as well.
You see something very different happens when the music and lyrics are written from the same mind and soul. Each becomes dependent upon each other to realize the full meaning of the song. This is at the heart of my music. Music is all about the lyrics. Each song should clearly tell a story. Some of the best song writers were more known as poets than vocalists. Such talents as Kurt Cobain, Roger Waters, Marty Willson-Piper, Steve Kilbey, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. These poets tell stories through music and while the music is certainly outstanding, it is the lyrics that connect people to the music. Too many musicians today either forget this or never realized it at all.
With the July 2008 release of Geronimo, my first full length record featuring all original material, I was able to tell my stories that have been brewing for many many years.
Appropriately titled debut album from Scott Becker. Rather impressed on the production and engineering aspects of the album; the CD was producted eliquently and rescenated of a major lable quality.
Now,for the music. Becker out did himself the CD starts great with the first 2 tracks bareing his soul. In fact, Becker does remind me of great solo artists such as Robyn Hitchcock and Mitch Easter.
Rumor has it that Becker may be compiling a band for the next project album. If I were a betting man; my money says it will sound much like the Replacements.
