Bengali Souljaaz (BSR / Bengali Souljaa Records), is a group who introduced a new music sensation to our Bengali culture. Brining mixture of hip-hop and alternative rock to Bengali music is their unique identity and they are aiming to go international. BSR began making scrap tracks during the summer of 2006, until they decided to take it to another level and go worldwide. They started using professional musical instruments and computer software and took more interest about brining it to the community. As the time passed, their improvement has grown a lot and they are fully focused on improving their skills more than before. The type of music BSR produce is enjoyed by everyone from different communities because of the South Asian style of beats and vocals.
BSR has performed a few times on stage, and they are looking forward to performing more so that their talents and skills can be improved and also that they would be able to perform without any mistakes in the future and express their talents outside the studio. Their first performance took place in Scarborough, Ontario at a small Bengali cultural show on November 26th, 2006. After that performance, they began working even more on their music as to improve their standards. A few weeks later they performed once again at the same place and did a much better job.
BSR recordings takes place at Shafeen’s house. He has made his room into what is now their recording studio. Their instruments include acoustic guitar (both Saidul and Shafeen owns one), Shafeen’s red hot electric guitar, his computer, and most importantly, their voices. BSR has spent a lot of time and money behind everything to improve their recording quality. BSR members Sakib, Shafeen, Shawrov and Rizvee are doing school, and therefore only can record during their free time. This slows down their productions by a lot. And currently BSR is trying to save up enough dough to obtain a powerful yet expensive mixing board associated with a company called Digidesign which will improve their music production by a lot.
BSR’s current aim is to finish their first album which will be called “Tomorrow Awaits” by the end of this coming summer. More information about the album, including in-depth details will be included upon the release of this album. So get ready to blast your speakers. It’s our time now.
