Black Rock Art Center is a multi-cultural center located in a former bank building with a number of events and programs including concerts, exhibitions, workshops, film screenings, and youth programs. The Art Center presents international artists from Africa, Caribbean, Asia and the Americas as well as significant local and regional artists. We have produced programs such as the Black Rock Blues Festivals, World Cinema and Cuisine, First Friday Art Walks, Flicks and Food, Creative Paintbrush programs, the State of the Arts Festivals and the new Seaside Park Arts Festival. BLACK ROCK ART WALK
Visit Fairfield Avenue on the first and third Fridays of every month (except July 4) to meet area artists and craftspeople. Open 6-9 pm, May 2 through October 3.
OIL DRUM PAINTING WORKSHOP
May 3, noon - 5pm
Join us at the Art Center to paint Oil Drum Art!
These decorative drums will be placed in Seaside Park in time for the 1st Annual Seaside Park Arts Festival on May 24th. But first they will debut to a crowd of area artists and organizers at the State of the Arts event at the Art Center on May 8th.

Positive Results: Camera Obscura Self-Portraits
Photographic Works By Students at Black Rock School & St. Ann's School
After completing a four hour workshop with photographer Thomas Mezzanotte, students from Bridgeport's Black Rock School and St. Ann's School will share their self-portraits with the community. Students made their own pinhole cameras using what they have learned about camera obscura, and used the hand-made cameras for self-portraits at the Art Center.

Broadway Bound
Kate Katcher's 6th Annual Summer Acting Program for Kids & Teens
After five successful years at the Playhouse on the Green, Kate Katcher will offer the Broadway Bound theater workshop for kids and teens at the Black Rock Art Center this summer. Classes run Mon-Fri, 9am - 3pm, and the class is open to all ages 8-16. Each day includes classes in acting, voice and dance with students working in small, age-defined groups. In addition, the entire company will rehearse and prepare for its final production on Aug. 1, which will include age-appropriate scenes, songs and production numbers from Broadway shows and original projects. Open to youth ages 8-16 with an interest in stage performance. Families who register by May 15 will get a $50 discount on registration. The program will cost $1000 per student, and financial assistance will be available to those families who need it. Interns aged 15-16 may be eligible to attend at half-price.

STATE OF THE ARTS: BRIDGEPORT 2008
May 8, 7pm
For the second year we will be hosting the State of the Arts exhibition and round-table discussion. We have invited representatives from N.E.S.T. Art Factory, the Barnum Museum, Gallery 1212, City Lights Gallery, the Discovery Museum, Fairfield Arts Council, MACH, Housatonic Museum and Read's ArtSpace to discuss Bridgeport's cultural plan and where it is headed, and the barriers we face when seeking funding for the arts.
This one day exhibit will be a preview of artists who will appear at the Seaside Park Arts Festival happening on May 24th (see below). Guests at State of the Arts will have a chance to talk to SPAF organizers and register for a table at the festival.
SEASIDE PARK ARTS FESTIVAL
May 24, noon - 5pm
Seaside Park is getting a facelift with the addition of 60 new Trash Drum Artworks created by area artists and students. To celebrate, we will have an arts festival with musical performances, artist tables, community organizations, and many activities for visitors of all ages. Organized by Oil Drum Art, N.E.S.T., Black Rock Art Center and the City of Bridgeport.
