Influences
Damien Rice, Joni Mitchell, Cursive, The Good Life, Emily Haines, Jenny Lewis, Josh Rouse, Ozma, and others
A fresh and ambitious addition to the Denver area music scene, producer and musician Breton Parks has found his footing in the recording studio behind the mic as well as the mixer. After dabbling with various projects and bands for the last few years, Breton has finally come into his own as a song writer. His contemporary style breaks away from increasingly common three-chord melodies, with an enthralling and multifaceted indie-acoustic result, supplemented even more by his highly personal lyrics. Breton brings yet another dynamic to his music, particularly live, with his natural vocal power and penchant for belting which produce a raw, yet melodically mesmerizing performance. Breton's lyrics, poetic and explorative, paired with his commanding vocals, solidify the connection between artist and song and demand an audience's attention.
Breton has just finished recording his debut album, Substitute, which contains vocals reminiscent of Damien Rice and a Cursive inspired dissonant musicality. An intriguing meld of full-bodied instrumentation and pure, simple acoustic sound, Substitute accomplishes Breton's goal of creating something "easily accessible" that will appeal to a wide range of listeners.
