About me: http://www.SchooledTheFilm.com/
After making over 50 short film exercises in his teens, Brooks studied filmmaking at New York University where his shorts won several awards from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts as well as The Hamptons International Film Festival. Brooks finished all his coursework a semester early and refused his diploma because of his strong mixed
feelings about college and authority figures. At 22, he wrote and directed a feature called "Snapshots From a .500 Season," based on his experiences as co-captain of the NYU Soccer team. "Snapshots" screened at a handful of colleges and played for a month at "New York City's Guerrilla Cinema." In his late 20's, after taking a few years off to
do "nothing," Brooks discovered alternative education approaches that support their students in doing "nothing" and he felt a deep kindred spirit. That inspired Brooks to return to the filmmaking game and he spent the next five years researching, writing, and directing "Schooled" which features a Sudbury Valley Model School as a major element. Brooks has several new projects in development including a
couple fiction scripts, a documentary TV series about a criminal defense lawyer, and a brash web series about a mixed martial arts brawler. Brooks lives in LA with his wife and son and aims to finish his life anywhere past his 100th birthday.
