Here's a review from CMJ on my 1st studio demo in 1995, recorded at Sound of Music in Richmond, VA :
BULLETS FROM OZ: Something To Say
Something To Say, the three-track demo from Richmond's Bullets From Oz, is certainly one of the more impressive offerings we've found in the Futures mailbin lately. The ultra-hooky "All That We Needed" sets the stakes pretty high, and thankfully, it just gets better from there. The title track offers just enough of what one might predict melodically, even as it steers away from any obligatory pop formulas with a few jagged, yet appropriate, chord changes. Guitarist/singer Chip Lovelace has a knack for putting warm, compelling solos properly in place among chunky rhythm guitars, a trait particularly noticeable at the midsection of the title track, and his vocals are consistently as intimate as each song's musical context will allow. The concluding track, "No Second Chance," is a laid-back sparkly number complete with Byrds-ish guitars and some truly spectacular harmonies. Here's hoping we get to hear a full-length very soon.
