Burgandy Brown was born into music. The Los Angeles born, Colorado grown vocalist has an ability that seems to come with such ease, that it belies the effort it takes to achieve such a sound. At 22 years of age, she has been surrounded by music her entire life. She and her family moved from L.A. to the eastern plains of Colorado where she began a musical journey that has brought her to the place she is now. She began singing in elementary school and church as one of the many voices of a choir, but was soon recognized to have an extraordinary talent and was a featured soloist at many performances. She then attended The School of the Arts in Denver where she was surrounded by music on a daily basis. It was during her High School years that she began to view singing as more than a hobby and decided to augment her musical education with private vocal lessons. She wrote her fist song, ‘Don’t lie to Me’ while in her freshman year of high school and later recorded it as part of her debut EP entitled ‘Eastern Plains’ which includes three more songs and a video for ‘Listening’. She later sang in a popular local Denver band for a short time that performed at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater. “Looking out at that audience, I knew that singing was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life” says Brown. “The most incredible feeling, is watching other people sing the words to the songs right along with me. It’s hard to describe how happy it makes me feel.”
In 2007, she collaborated on a set of music with Producer, Haylar Garcia and recorded a demo to shop to musicians in order to build a band and take her own music to the masses. Haylar recommended two musicians that he had played with in a band called “Hippie Werewolves’ that had recorded several CDs and had toured the US on several occasions.
Bryan Dennis and EJ Worden had lived in separate parts of the country for a few years, but were now back home in Denver at just the right time to receive a phone call that would bring them and Burgandy together. During the first few rehearsals, it was clear to EJ & Bryan that although several years had passed since writing together, they were still able to jump right in and play music that could compliment Burgandy’s voice and vision. With the addition of former Werewolves bassist; Dani Harrison, the lineup was complete. In March of 2007 the quartet began recording their first CD, ‘My Lucky 13’ at The Decibel Garden in Denver, Colorado. Since Dani, EJ, Haylar and Bryan had done so much recording in the past, the sessions flowed with a palpable energy that fueled the project, sometimes until dawn. Former Hippie Werewolves guitarist, John Scott was an added to the studio band to provide an additional element of talent that produced memorable guitar hooks such as the wah-pedal line on ‘Slip-N-Slide’.
To promote the new CD, Burgandy & the boys have been performing at venues not only in Denver and Boulder, but have taken the show nation-wide. From Los Angeles to Nashville, Burgandy Browns live performances have been well received by a diverse audience. She & the band have performed at the Denver Convention Center, the Thunder in the Rockies motorcycle rally, Fort Huachuca Army Base in Arizona, downtown clubs in Las Vegas, NV, and at coffee houses and book/music stores. Three singles have also gained nationwide radio airplay. ‘Basics’ was the first song to hit the airwaves as a pre-release single on Rock and AAA stations as far away as the US Virgin Islands. Then ‘Slip-N-Slide’ was on AAA and college stations. Next was ‘Set it Off’ , which is, at the time of this writing, enjoying nationwide airplay on Hot AC, AC, as well as Country stations. Burgandy and Bryan seem to have a knack for writing songs that easily cross over to several formats. They currently have enough new material written for a second full-length CD, and continue to write music that will take them into the future.
Because of the blessings that the birth of a child can bring, Dani shifted his priorities from the band to his new role as husband and father. John has a wife and twin daughters, so the band stands now as an acoustic act with Burgandy, Bryan and EJ continuing on, writing and performing existing songs as well as new ones.
