'BY DEMONS BE DRIVEN' hails from Martinsburg, in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The band was formed in February of 2006 by guitarists Justin Catrow & Timmy Bennett. Our old jammin buddy, Josh Welch, joined as bassist right about the same time we met and persuaded drummer, Adam Miller, to quit the local band he was playing with to join 'BDBD' as well.
The four of us spent the summer of 2006 writing and rehearsing and trying to find a singer... but had no luck. With the end of summer fast approaching we decided to round up some bands and throw a Labor Day party (now our annual Labor Day Metalfest!) and perform our songs instrumentally in hopes of generating a buzz and word of mouth to help us find a singer... and our plan worked! After our performance we were approached by another local musician, Aaron Hess, who became the 5th and final original member of 'BY DEMONS BE DRIVEN'.
Within six weeks of completing our line-up we headed to a local studio, Twin M Productions, in Bunker Hill,WV to record our debut album, the "Through Dying Eyes" EP! It was a quickie job, a demo really, recorded live and in one take for the most part in about three days total. But despite the lack of time spent on it, the CD got great reviews and gained us a lot of fans! We were satisfied with the results for the time being, but we're REALLY anxious to see what we can do when we have the chance to relax, take our time, and get things just the way we want them. So, in the very near future we're planning to re-record all five tracks from our first EP as well as five brand new tracks and combine them to make our first full-length album!
'BY DEMONS BE DRIVEN' played TONS of shows in the local four-state area nearly every weekend between September 2006 and May 2007. One highlight being the "Headbang For The Highway" battle-of-the-bands at JAXX in March of 2007. 'BDBD' took 1st Runner-Up amongst some established area bands despite the fact that our line-up had been together for a mere six months!
Unfortunately, the band split up in June of 2007 for nearly a year. But, three of the original five members, guitarist Justin Catrow, drummer Adam Miller, and bassist Josh Welch, reunited in March of 2008 and welcomed a new guitarist, Stephen Spry, to the band shortly after in June. The final piece of the puzzle came in August of 2008 when our good friend Kris Buchman, lead singer of 'DARKNESS FORETOLD', joined the band.
After a 15-month absence from playing live, 'BY DEMONS BE DRIVEN' finally took the stage again for the first time on August 31,2008 at our 3rd annual 'Labor Day Metalfest'! Now that our line-up is complete once again, we're looking forward to starting work on our 2nd album and getting back to playing shows as often as we can!!!
