Sounds Like
Us! When we're at our best. Because we do harmonies throughout all our songs, our sound is sorta unique - I don't hear many people do that these days. We're mostly pop/folk with elements of light, acoustic, rootsish (ie R&B) touches, + add a touch of ambient music. We sound like Shawn Colvin meets Brian Eno. A Lloyd Cole/Carpenters Mash-Up. Norah Jones doing an album with Harold Budd. Peter Gabriel collaborating with the Lovin' Spoonful. Peter, Paul & Mary fronting the Cocteau Twins. Van Morrison, featuring Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds. Jackson Browne jamming with John Denver and Mary Chapin-Carpenter. Give us a listen and tell me what YOU think!
Hi! My name is Tom Caufield, and I'm originally from Michigan; I'm a Singer/Songwriter based out of Los Angeles. For a long time I played in bands around the midwest; eventually I released a record on the Paradox label (distributed by the mighty and now non-existent PolyGram) in 1988. Unfortunately, only my mother, my girlfriend, and my cat bought the album, so I was back to being an indie artist in no time. After having a GREAT time with a band I formed in Nashville, I relocated to Los Angles in 1996, where I was able to find some work in the film and television world. My songs have been featured on: "Felicity", "Reunion". "Summerville","The Young and the Restless" and other network television shows. I also scored the independent film "Angry Dogs" and The Learning Channel's popular Documentary "Rock'n' Roll Fantasy Camp." In 2004, I decided to form a male/female harmony duo, as a way of expresses the yin/yang-male/female-light/shadow-earth-sea/sun-moon character that my life has taken on since becoming a married man, and, a bit older. I sang for a year with a woman named Maureen Doherty, who has a beautiful voice. We released the CAUFIELD debut, 'Falling Short Of Utopia,' mainly a guitar and voice album, that same year, to good reviews. Maureen wanted to move on, to possibly start a family or a solo career, so at the End of 2005, I found German-born Singer Yasmin Tanriverdi, who has been singing professionally since age 14, after auditioning several female vocalists in the Southern California Area. We recorded our first album "Leave Tonight," together in January 2006. A more diverse collection, which adds the occasional Saxophone, drumkit or electric guitar into the mix,"Leave Tonight" was released in June later that year. The CD has been added to radioioacoustic and FM Odyssey and is receiving positive reviews. We're currently playing dates around Los Angeles and plan to tour the American Southeast and Germany during 2007. The life of an indie artist has no guarantees. It's up and down, and like anyone's job, is often a struggle, and has it's share of frustrations. But the freedom to do what I want creatively is priceless, and gives me my reason to live. So pick up a guitar, a paintbrush, a pen or a camera and quit your day job. I recommend it!
