LA-ABCF	Aug 8 2008 5:21 AM Run for their lives! Support United States Political Prisoners and Prisoners-of-War at the 7th RUNNING DOWN THE WALLS! On Saturday, August 23, 2008 join in the community effort to support and raise awareness of those who have been targeted and punished for their political actions and beliefs. RUNNING DOWN THE WALLS is a 5k non-competitive run/walk/bike in the beautiful Whittier Narrows Regional Park. Registered participants will receive food and entertainment and there will be water available at rest stops along the route. Registration entry fees are: $12 for pre-registration, $15 for registration at the run site. Supporters who wish not to run, walk or bike may make a donation. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Further games, entertainment, and speakers will continue after the run and will last until 2:00 p.m. Proceeds from this 5K run will benefit the ABCF Warchest. Founded in 1994, the program has provided consistent and reliable financial aid to Political Prisoners held within the US prison system. Since its creation, it has raised over $50,000 for these prisoners and will continue in these efforts. A portion of the proceeds will also go to El Centro Cultural de Mexico, a community center in Santa Ana dedicated to developing a cultural and educational bridge that brings together a variety of cultural projects from Mexico, Central and South America. Proceeds will also go to the Committee to Free Chip Fitzgerald, a support group dedicated to the release of Romaine 'Chip' Fitzgerald. Chip is the longest held Black Panther political prisoner in the United States. LA-ABCF	Nov 30 2007 7:24 AM The Murder of Fred Hampton Documentary On December 1st, there will be a documentary showing of The Murdur of Fred Hampton at the SoCal Library in LA. This showing will mark the 38th anniversary of the death of the young Black Panther leader. We ask that every attend this event to honor the life and struggle of this dedicated revolutionary. On December 4, 1969, Fred Hampton, the Deputy Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, was killed during a raid by Chicago police and the FBI. During the incident, police riddled the apartment with bullets, killing Black Panther Mark Clark, and injuring five other Panthers. Fred Hampton, one of those injured, was dragged out of his bed and shot pointblank in the head. It was later discovered he had been drugged by an uncover agent. LA-ABCF	Aug 13 2007 1:17 AM The Walls Will Be Ran Down! In 1999, a few members of the Los Angeles Anarchist Black Cross Federation (ABCF) who were dedicated to supporting Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War (PP/POW’s) organized a grueling three mile trek through the mountains of Griffith Park, as a fundraiser for Political Prisoners. These days the event has taken a much easer rout around the scenic lakes of the Whittier Narrows in El Monte, Ca, but the motivation is still the same. Running Down the Walls (RDTW) is not just an event, not just a fundraiser, RDTW is an action taken in solidarity with, not for, political prisoners and their supporter. From 1999 to 2002 and again in 06, LA-ABCF organized a 5k non-competitive run/jog/walk designed to raise funds for the ABCF Warchest and other programs supported by the local organizations. Since its inception this event has raised thousands dollars for important programs. In the first three years, the funds were divided between the ABCF Warchest and the Prisoner Art Project, a fund designed to monetarily assist political prisoners with art supplies. In ‘02, the run helped the ABCF Warchest and autonomous settlement of Maclovio Rojas in Mexico - which has considerable repression over the years. The ‘06, RDTW helped raise funds for the Growing Healthy program Sponsored by the New Panther Vanguard. In 2006 there was not just one run in Los Angeles, but there were runs all over the country, even one in Canada. Last year’s run brought a few firsts to RDTW, it was the first time there were nine runs simultaneously, as well as Ali Khalid Abdullah was the first prisoner to raise money on the inside. Due to increased demand by PP/POW’s and community activists, LA-ABCF will be organizing the next RDTW on Saturday, September 8th, 2007.
