Our motto really should be "Fresno's Eclectic Dance Solution" because thats really what our night has become. Popsmear has never been about fitting into one particular category. If our DJ's like the song... Our DJ's play the song. Pop music, by definition encompases so much that it would quite literaly be impossible to sum it up in one short "ABOUT US" section. So I wont even try. I will say this however, Popsmear is about equality. Musicaly and personaly. In the same way that there is beauty in all types of people, there is beauty in all genres of music. And by playing all types of music, we attract all kinds of people. Popsmear has never just been an Indie night, or an 80's night, or a rock night, Because every week its something new.
Founded by two DJ's, Joymode and Matt D. Two guys who have spent most of thier life and their savings buying records and cd's, Irritating their girlfriends when they go out of town to San Francisco or LA because they were forced to spend 4 hours in a record store, while they searched out the latest and greatest soon to be smash hits...or looking for that mint vinyl copy of Violator... Popsmear has always been about edge. Even when that caused thier loved ones to get on edge...Some may say that Rod Stewart isnt very edgy... But combine that with the latest Metric or Kills track and then follow it up with some classic Depeche Mode... and the dance floor proves otherwise.
People want something new and exciting. Our DJ's feel the same way about thier music; Always playing music that is relevant.(To them anyway)
Occasionaly we open up the decks to guest DJ's. We arent the Alpha and Omega of DJ's by any means. And there is always the possibility of someone teaching us a thing or two. In fact its a very real possibility. It only helps us to make our night more diverse and more exciting. New DJ's bring new people, and new people tell thier friends, And usually when those friends talk to us, they can't believe they havent heard about us. We want this night to be Huge, and we want to have alot of friends. We want to give the central valley people that arent into just hearing hip hop and house music, a party that will be remembered... every 2 weeks.
All are welcome. and we get excited (and a little nervous) when we see new faces. If you wanna hear a song, bring us a copy of it! Chances are we will play it! We like to have a good time. And we know how good it makes us feel when we hear one of our favorite tracks when we're out partying...
