Kate Carpenter began writing songs long before she knew how to play them. In fact her first instrument was the cymbals – an instrument she chose on a train station platform in Italy so that she could tour with La Banda Roncati with no musical training whatsoever. This experience changed the path of her life from roaming nomad to aspiring song-writer. Within a few weeks of arriving in Brussels she met bass player Ivan Georgiev. Together they performed her songs in bars around town, theatre: ‘Le Cacao chaud’. It may have all ended there had Kate not metFrançois Opdebeeck, a new bass player, who persuaded her to put rn to Canada so that they could build a complete repertoire with her songs as a performing duo. Five years on they are still playing together. At the end of 2008 Ivan Georgiev, decided to join them, performing keyboard and guitar, and using his experience as composer to arrange Kate’s songs. Very quickly they saw that a drummer was needed and they had the chance to hook up with Jean-Luc Millot whose sensitive and imaginative playing fits beautifully with the strong atmospheric music, created by Ivan and Jean-François.
