Cerrito's Italian heritage enables him to be fervent about his music. A traditional country artist, Cerrito embraces country music with a passion. One of six children, this New England-born artist follows his heart to perform traditional country music in English and Spanish.
As a youngster, Cerrito picked up the microphone to perfect his imaginary show singing along with the country tunes that carried from the airwaves of the household radio. Cerrito's influences included George Jones, Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. By the age of 16, he performed as a regular in local clubs surrounding his hometown, Providence, Rhode Island. Cerrito performed in front of crowds at any venue that would allow the young boy on their stage.
In the mid 1980's Cerrito headed to L. A. with the starving ambition to pursue his dream. He made the acquaintance of one Dottie West after a show in Las Vegas. Cerrito and West immediately became close personal friends. Dottie West was the inspiration and motivation in Cerrito's life that encouraged him to follow his dream.
"His voice is pleasantly rich and full-bodied with lots of emotion. His stage presentation is sincere and gracious." --Michael Carmack, L. A. Times
Cerrito had come across an audition posting in search of back-up singers for the well-known Las Vegas actress/singer Charo. As part of the audition process, candidates were required to perform in English as well as Spanish. In light of his background and ability to speak Italian fluently, Cerrito's transposition to the Spanish language was merely natural. Cerrito wasted no time in perfecting the Spanish Language to allow him to translate the English lyric into a beautiful Spanish melody. He secured the gig with Charo and toured with her for three years.
Cerrito moved on to San Antonio, TX where he headlined his own show at the Arneson River Theatre on the river performing traditional country music ( in English and Spanish) in front of ravenous audiences who seemed to want more. Cerrito found his place in the Country Music scene.
Cerrito's interest and success in learning to translate traditional country music to the Spanish language opened doors to a number of opportunities. Renowned Nashville producer Byron Gallimore approached Cerrito with the request to translate Tim McGraw's hit record "Re-fried Dreams, " and the Country Music Association, Nashville, solicited him to perform on stage at the first "Fiesta Nashville" show--Fan Fair 2001.
Elevating his mainstay as a singer-songwriter, Cerrito became a BMI writer. He recorded and released three singles under the Soundwaves Label ("My Baby Left Me," "Bad Moon Rising, "and "I'm Into Somthin' Good").
"A talented and versatile singer, Cerrito has a magnetic relationship with audiences and never lets them down for a minute. " --Mel Shields, Variety/Reno, NV
Cerrito describes himself as a traditional country music artist whose forte' is to perform a ballad that tells a story. He describes his live performance as an intriguing show that's not choreographed or dramatic, but a live interaction that captures and embraces the crowd.
Cerrito demonstrates his musical influences and zest for the more traditional country sound on his latest CD album entitled Cerrito on Checo Records. The album contains a series of up-tempo tunes yet captures hearts with tender and emotional ballads. Cerrito wrote two of the eleven songs contained on the CD which is scheduled for a Fall 2001 release.
Cerrito's personal brand of country music has been honed by a lifetime of dedication that is now enabling him to expand his national reputation. He's a refreshing artist who brings forth the great country sound of the past with vibrant Spanish/Italian flavor.
"The word 'Simpatico' aptly applies to Cerrito." --Ed Conroy, San Antonio Express News
