About Cher & Gene Klosner
Omaha and Los Angeles residents, Cher & Gene Klosner (KLOZE-ner),
a sister-brother, singer-songwriter duo, originally from Omaha, Nebraska,
have been performing their signature harmony-driven acoustic sound across
the United States for many years. Their rich, intricate vocal sound has
been described as "audible chocolate." Performance highlights
include World Youth Day, with Pope John Paul
II, former President Clinton and a half a million
teens from around the world (which led to the release of their CD, Denver),
The Grand Ole Opry, American Magazine, the 2007 and '08
College World Series, the 2008 US Olympic Swim Trials, the 6-city Autumn Festival
and Spring Festival tours, and many 9/11 tribute events
in New York and L.A.
In addition to their performances at music festivals and colleges, Cher
& Gene Klosner have been heard on radio stations, jingles,
and on various television and animation projects produced by Cher's
husband, Emmy-award-winning "The
Simpsons" animator/Assistant Director, Ben Lane*. Their
song "Please Don't Send Me Fruitcake," from their Christmas
album, Ribbons and Pine, was featured on
the nationally syndicated Dr. Demento radio show, and
was recently recorded by The
von Trapp Children, along with Cher's "All I'll Ask This Christmas."
"Please Don't Send Me Fruitcake" has been performed
by several symphonies, including the Omaha Symphony,
the Atlanta Symphony, the Minnesota Symphony,
and the Cincinnati Symphony, conducted by the legendary
Erich Kunzel.
Cher & Gene Klosner were commissioned by The
United in Memory Foundation to compose a song for the unveiling
of the United in Memory 9/11 Memorial Quilt, which took
place aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.
The resulting song, "Tower of Love,"
was also performed in New York on the second and third anniversaries of
9/11 at the opening ceremonies of the United
in Memory 9/11 Memorial Quilt display. The song evoked such a tremendous
response that Cher and Gene decided to make "Tower of Love"
available as a free download on their website, www.cherandgeneklosner.com.
"Tower of Love" has since been used in many 9/11 memorial tributes.
While touring around the country during the week, Cher &
Gene spent many Sundays visiting churches in whichever city they happened
to be performing, introducing one of their side projects called Light
the Fire! - a collection of contemporary liturgy/worship music. These
visits inspired their third album, a sacred album entitled, Sunday.
Their series of liturgical music was launched nationally this summer and is now available at Light
the Fire Music website.
Cher and Gene have just released their fourth CD, Stardust
- a two-disc collection of lullabies for all ages, many
of which were sung to them as children by their own mom, and that Cher
now sings to her own little boy, Benjamin. Stardust features a veritable Who's Who list of musicians from the Midwest and LA, including members of the Omaha Symphony, the Omaha Conservatory of Music and top shelf jazz players. Stardust has won the coveted iParenting Media "Best Products - Audio - 2008" Award, a Parents' Choice Spring 2008 Music Award, a Creative Child "Preferred Choice" Award, and a "Parents With Style" Award.
Cher & Gene are presently working on Here in the Distance, a
singer/songwriter collection,
and are also recording their second Christmas collection.
"Wash Away" features Don Poythress in a moving worship experience from the heart of one of Nashville's top worship leaders. Widely acclaimed as a songwriter, Don has found a home for many of his songs on recordings by The Martins, Jaci Velasquez, Tim McGraw, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Kellie Pickler and more.
