I opened in 1928 and was known back then as the Capitol Theater. I was primarily a movie theater. Things were great. I had tons of people coming though my door. Then in 1936(at the depths of the Great Depression,)a flood submerged most of my first floor and stage. That was a bad year. The damage was substantial. The passing years into the 70's were not kind to me.
Not having a chance to fully recover from the flood, with the economy plummeting, and with television coming on the scene, I felt my fate was one swing away from the wrecking ball. It looked like my future was going to be spent as a parking lot.
Then, in 1989, The Williamsport-Lycoming Foundation, Pennsylvania College of Technology, and the City of Williamsport announced I was to be saved and turned into a performing arts center. You can imagine how relieved I was. I even got a new name: Community Arts Center.
I was given a major facelift! In 1993, my doors reopened. I will be turning 80 next year and I have never looked better.
Who I'd like to meet: Everyone involved in the arts.
Jeff you did a wonderful performance at the WILLIAMSPORT Community Arts Center last night. I can't remember when was the last time that I ever laughed that hard in my life. I really loved the show. Keep up the good work, Jamie

Had a great time last night in the scenic CAC lounge, rubbing elbows with artistic genious! Thanks so much for the invitation. The merlot was smooth and delightful. It was fun to meet you - and I'm looking forward to returning.
Thank you very much for the ADD! I hope to one day be able to make it up there to see the theater. I haven't been there since I was a kid. I spent all my time at the old theater. I hear it is a great place now. I hope to visit one day and see it for myself. Thank you again for adding me. ~Always Brigette~
