I want to commend everyone associated with LAR Enterprises on an incredible Doo Wop Weekend April 5th and 6th, 2008! Rob, Laura, Pete and their entire team did everything within their power to make sure the all the customers and all the artists were treated with the utmost of respect! The summer has begun wonderfully for us in Truth in Music. The state of Delaware, which for two sessions has had our bill mired in the legislature for political reasons, surprisingly passed the bill at the end of June! We had thought it inevitable that the bill would have to be reintroduced in 2009 with different sponsorship, but we have made it in 2008! Thanks to Sen. Connor and to Rich Dillard for their persistence, and to Sens. DeLuca and Sokola for looking beyond partisanship for this good cause. Governor Minner will sign the bill on July 10th at 10 AM and I will be there at the state house in Dover. Please let me know if you would like to attend.
At virtually the same moment as Delaware came through, Rhode Island's House passed our bill as well. That means that both Ohio and Rhode Island have passed one chamber. RI will pass the other shortly, and Ohio in the fall. That will bring our total after the 2008 legislative session to a whopping 27 states! The eastern seaboard will be complete from Maine to Virginia. And as has already been noted, all the biggest states and all the biggest live performance states will have subscribed to Truth in Music, meaning that we are in practical terms way more than halfway home.
On the enforcement side, it seems clear from our Google alerts that the impostor group business is down about 90% in 2008! Venues and agents have clearly gotten the message that it's not worth it to them to book questionable shows.
The state of Nevada is officially investigating the show at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Nothing will be revealed by Nevada Consumer Affairs Division and the Attorney General's office while the investigation goes on, but we do know that documents have been subpoenaed and the investigation is ong
