WHO I AM: What is a "darkhorse" you may ask? Well, a darkhorse is someone who succeeds when predicted to fail; someone who looks at fear right in the face and spits on it, beats the undefeated, and completes the impossible. I had a 2% chance of being born, and the fact that I am alive right now leads me to believe that I am here for a reason and for a purpose, and if I wasn't, then I wouldn't have been here in the first place or still be here now. In just 22 short years, i have seen the skies in their brightest form of blue and their darkest shade of gray. I have gone through so much....some good, some not so good...and the fact that I am still standing after all the times I've been knocked down makes me realize that I am here for more than merely the point of existing. There is a simple, yet powerful quote i live my life by: "I Will Touch the Sun or I Will Die Trying", and the symbolism and meaning behind this quote, to me, is beyond words. All of my goals will be achieved, and all of my deepest dreams will become reality, no matter what obstacles are placed in my way. So...what is a darkhorse you still may ask? I am a true darkhorse, and and although some of my dreams have started to turn into reality, this is only the beginning of my journey, and I still "have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep."
My nationalities include German, Russian, Czech, Italian, Japanese, and Mongolian, and this unique blend of backgrounds gives me a special appreciation for different cultures. In the future (besides writing poetry and performing spoken word), I plan to be a high school teacher in an inner city school, helping teenagers in need and opening their eyes to the wonderful world of self expression through creative writing. I am a strong supporter of the organization "Invisible Children", and am very passionate about helping the children in Africa. In my free time, I enjoy playing several sports, traveling, skiing, kayaking, playing pool, scrabble, and chess, hiking, and watching Curious George with my nephews. My favorite sports teams are the Seattle Seahawks for football, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for baseball, and the Dallas Mavericks for basketball. I strongly dislike former President Bush, the New York Yankees, PETA, homophobes, fake tans, airplanes, and bumble bees. Anything else you'd like to know? just send me a message and ask! : )

Dakota Daedalus Devnet Darkhorse is the symbolic pen name / stage name for Edward D. Homick II, who is a poet, spoken word artist, photographer, artist, and musician from New Haven, Connecticut. The pseudonym is a play on words, because "Dakota" is Native American for "friend", and a "Darkhorse" is a term for someone who succeeds when predicted to fail, ergo, "Dakota Darkhorse" translates to "Your Friend, The Underdog". At only 22 years old, he already has 2 books of poetry published (by Wasteland Press), and a CD of music / spoken word out as well (produced by Poet of Pain). His debut book, "A Scar is Born" came out in May 2007, his second book, "Another Day, Another Shade of Gray", came out in April 2008, and his debut CD, "Scars and Stripes" came out in January 2008. Anything published before 2009 was under the pen name "Donnie Darkhorse", and the name change to Dakota took place at the beginning of 2009. He has had readings and performances at many venues, bookstores, coffee shops, and open mics across the country. Some of his biggest shows were being the opening act for rock band Bedlight for Blue Eyes in Long Island, New York in September 2007, being the featured performer at the Dukester in Cincinnati, Ohio, Cafe Internation on the world famous Haight Street in San Francisco, California, and the Mocha Match Coffee Bar in Atlanta / Decatur, Georgia, being a part of the first ever Wagfest literary event in New Jersey, performing several times at the Webster Theater in Hartford, Connecticut, and having an in store reading / book signing at the Yale Bookstore in New Haven, Connecticut. Besides promoting his solo works, Dakota Darkhorse is also the lead member of his rock band "Goodbye Guardian Angel", whose debut CD "Farewell to Forever" came out in May, 2009. He also goes on tour several times a year to different parts of the country to promote his works, so always check his tour dates for a show near you!
