David Josias, the 5th of seven children born and raised on Chicago’s Southside, is an Artist/ Songwriter/Producer who gained national notoriety from his independently released single, “Mindblowin”. It hit 1 at radio stations across the country and sold over 200,000 copies, garnered a Billboard Top 100 single, followed by a BET & Music Box most requested video. An R&R magazine review called him the “fresh new voice in R&B”.
Josias landed a record deal with Lava/Atlantic Records, under the guidance of legendary executive Jason Flom, and eventually recorded and released the independent, multi-CDs entitled “In My Life”, “Ghetto Love” and “Special Time”. His classic song “In My Life” is a most requested song and stands up against the classics of all time.
In addition to having written over 200 songs, BMI songwriter David Josias is also a talented musician on keyboards, trumpet, bongos, congas and various percussions. His styles and influences include Orchestra, Jazz, R&B, Classical,
David has done jingles for Bally's, Louis Rich Turkey, Johnson & Johnson's soft sheen and many others, he started playing bongos and congas at age 8 and at age 12 began playing the cornet. After graduating from grade school he was immediately recruited to the Chicago Vocational high school orchestra where he learned to read and play different styles of music such as jazz band, marching band, orchestra, blues etc. He also formed a band with his homeboys that he practiced with after school. They recorded several demo's and David 's percussion work was noticed by Marshall Jefferson (known for club hit "Move Your Body") who asked him to play on several record projects he had going on.
"Bongo Dave" as they called him ended up playing on records for ...Evelyn "Champagne" King, Tom Tom Club, Duran Duran, Ten City, Kym Mazelle and many others while still in high school and after performing in talent shows, block party's, night clubs and singing at weddings the beginning of David's hard work started paying off. David received a music scholarship to Grambling State University but instead he chose to go on tour.
He has worked and performed with various entertainers including Chaka Khan, Faith Evans, Deborah Cox, Ron Isley, R. Kelly, Doug Rasheed, Usher, 112, D’Angelo, Danny Boy, Ray J, Twista, KRS-One, Dana Dane, Da Brat, Do or Die, Al Hudson, Gavin Christopher, Public Announcement, Maurice Mahon, Pure Soul, Brownstone, Marshall Jefferson, Evelyn Champagne King, New Edition, Duran Duran and many others.
David is a very spiritual person, love the God's and believes in giving back to the community. Organizations he has supported include Rainbow/Push, The Tesela School for Pregnant Teens, Clara’s House for the Homeless and Battered Women, and he sponsors high school tours for students with good grades
