Introducing Bryan Fisk, aka DJ Ataxic, the most versatile DJ in Kansas City’s diverse and respectable music scene.

Ataxic first made a splash as a resident hip-hop DJ at Danny’s Big Easy, a beloved Kansas City venue, in 2002. Seven years later, Ataxic is still punishing dance floors with clever mash-ups and genre-defying mixes.

From house to hip-hop, from rock to Top 40s, Ataxic steers his turntables through an obstacle course of sound. “I love watching a hip-hop head let loose to Thunderkiss 65 or Nirvana and not even realize they’re rockin’ out to it,” he says.

In January of 2003, Ataxic opened for his first national act, The Boot Camp Click, at the Hurricane in Kansas City’s historic Westport area. Since then, he’s opened for an avalanche of A-listers like Prince Paul, Blackalicious, LL Cool J, The Pharcyde, Tech N9ne and The Roots, to only name a few.

His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed by the local media. In 2006, Ataxic was featured in The Kansas City Star’s “Top 30 Under 30,” a list of local tastemakers. He was a guest on the morning television talk show “Kansas City Live” in April of 2006. Ataxic won “Best Hip-Hop DJ” in the 2007 “Best Of” edition of The Pitch, Kansas City’s arm of the Village Voice Media weekly newspapers. Always a great source for a knowledgeable quote, newspaper columnists and bloggers regularly hit up Ataxic for his thoughts on the Kansas City music scene .

Ataxic played a huge part in Kansas City hip-hop in his role as DJ for rapper Reach, who won Scion’s Next-Up MC contest in 2007 for the song “Comin’ for You.” While performing with Reach, Ataxic has been able to showcase his crowd-pleasing scratching and turntablism talents.

Surprising the crowd is one of Ataxic’s specialties. “Seeing people react to the songs they have loved and forgotten always makes me happy – maybe throwing in something like Kriss Kross’ ‘Jump,’ or Camp Lo’s ‘Luchini,’ or even something like Nu Shooz or Bananarama,” Ataxic says.

Clubs come and go, but Ataxic’s career has weathered the passing of trends in the fickle nightlife scene. He can currently be found playing venues from Springfield, Missouri (at clubs Kai and The High Life), to Wichita, Kansas (Club Indigo), to the suburbs of Kansas City (Paddy O’Quigleys in Lee’s Summit, Missouri) and the heart of the city (NV and Mike’s Tavern in KC).

In addition to all his skill, the husband and father of three is one of the most humble, easygoing and hardworking guys in the business, which accounts for his many friends and loyal fans.
