"Dean Lickyer is the best representation today of what truely is 'Rock and Roll'"
- Rich Haigher
Biography
"These guys are fucking rockstars" says Tommy Brunett, CEO of Universal Buzz NYC, "their CMJ Showcase was the best set I saw all week!"
That is high praise coming from a man who has worked with The Cult, Kid Rock and White Stripes... and it shows how far this band of 18 year old rock n rollers have come since starting out in 2004 as High Voltage.
Inspired by the rock nuggets they found in their parents vinyl, cassette and cd stash - they continue to develop their stage show complete with charismatic frontman and hard rock guitar blasts which brings to mind bands like the Who, Aerosmith or GnR, with an edge reminiscent of early 'tallica.
The "High Voltage" era ended on a high note, as the band won a slew of awards in 2007 including the Dofasco Hamilton Music Award for Best Loud / Metal Recording of the Year, which was added to their Hamilton Spring Music Festival Breakout Band Award and Y-108 Ultimate IndieBand Challenge Win.
Despite the honours, the band which has coalesced with JOSH ALVERNIA (vocals), SEAN ROYLE (guitars), JUSTIN BOZZO (bass guitar) and ERIC MARTIN (drums) is committed to moving forward as DEAN LICKYER.
"We picked the name HIGH VOLTAGE when we were 14" explains BC Rich endorsed guitarist Sean Royle "and it was cool for awhile, but now that we are out of school and doing music full time, we needed a name that was original, that we could build our reputation on. We picked DEAN LICKYER as a tribute to a guy who was inspired by the same style rock n' roll."
And the one thing these boys really love to do is rock... HARD!
With a list of MySpace and Facebook Friends that seems to grow exponentially with each amazing performance, it is just a matter of time until the lid blows sky high on one of Southern Ontario's best kept Rock n Roll secrets.
While none of the members of the band are old enough to drink legally, that has not stopped them from becoming a live favourite at 19+ clubs as well as All Ages Events along Highway 401 from Hamilton, Ontario to Montreal, Quebec.
This is a band that steps up their energy level with every challenge and over the past 12 months they have:
- showcased at Toronto's NxNE Festival, ROGERS Spring Music Festival, SCENE and CMJ Festivals
- finished runner-up in the Emergenza Ontario final, where lead guitarist Sean Royle, walked away with the best Guitarist nod (and for good reason)
- recorded 3 tracks with legendary record producer / engineer Nick Blagona (Deep Purple, Police, Tea Party, Alexisonfire)
- won a major radio station Battle of the Bands to perform on a Festival Show at the 2nd Annual Y108 Rock n Roll Picnic + $2000 cash
- performed 2 shows at CMJ in New York and found their way onto the pages of FILTER Magazine as a result!
to wrap up 2007...
- were nominated in 3 categories for the 2007 Dofasco Hamilton Music Awards - Best New Artist, Best Loud / Metal Recording of the Year, Best Guitarist (Sean Royle) and WON FOR BEST LOUD / METAL RECORDING OF THE YEAR!
But don't take my word for it. Listen to their new tracks produced by Nick Blagona, or catch them live and see what a growing legion of rock fans of all ages is quick to learn. DEAN LICKYER ROCKS!

Yetserday before chris went to your show, he came over to my house and he was tellin us stories about you guys and stuff like how 2 of you are legal to drink and the other 2 aren't. He also told us how you guys are the best band that he's worked with in a long time.
