I'm having a huge party in the 420 basement CLUB 6ix in San Francisco this weekend on AUG 7th. It's called DIRTY SOUF's Night of the Lioness: The FREE LEO PARTY! So if you're a LEO, you get in free.

DIRTY SOUF brings the most current Chopped N Screwed, New Orleans Bounce, and Southern Crunk music from the SOUTH over to San Francisco. We have Southern food too.

The DJs are Jeanine Da Feen & Storm. There will be a Go Go Dancing contest as well.

WEST COAST STREET DANCE: America’s first best dance crews Street dance describes dance styles that evolve outside of dance studios generally in African-American communities such as neighborhoods, schoolyards and nightclubs. Mostly improvisational and social in nature, these styles are generally performed by groups called “crews”. Although currently dance crews are gaining international attention and represent countries all over the world, the origins of the modern day dance crews are found on the west coast and particularly the streets of Los Angeles. Locking, robot, popping, Tut, Boogaloo, Waving, Krump, Hyphy, and Jerk, are all examples of street dance originating on the west coast which have become so popular on hit television shows such as America’s Best Dance Crew. West coast Street dance is a documentary feature film which gives an in depth study of this cultural phenomenon using interviews with the founders of these dance styles and crews, historical footage, and interviews and footage of the crews who are making the street dance movement so popular today. We will start with the first dance crew, The Lockers, whose founder­- Don Campbell made up the unique style of dance called Locking in 1969, which has influenced all street dance styles since. The Lockers become the first dance crew to gain national attention with many television appearances including Soul Train and Saturday Night Live in the early 70’s . We will show how locking and it’s companion dance style- “roboting” gave birth to the bay area styles called popping and Boogaloo which migrated to Los Angeles in the late 70’s and mixed with gang culture to solidify the concept of “crews” to represent dance styles. In the early 80’s the popularity of Locking and Poppin’ is on the decline in Los Angeles, as a new street dance style emerges from New York called Breakin’ which incorporates the west coast styles of Poppin’, Boogaloo, and Waving.
