Retreat! took place at the Scottish Scullery in St John's Church, Princes Street, between the 4th and the 24th of August 2008. It was a lot of fun and only some hard work for those of us involved in organising it, so perhaps next year we'll attempt something similar again. Thank you thank you thank you to all those who helped out and all those who attended. See you soon. B, D, E.

Retreat! : Three weeks of locally-sourced live music for your ethical enjoyment.
For the first three weeks of August, the people behind Edinburgh DIY promotion enterprises The Gentle Invasion, Tracer Trails and Hollow Heart Parlour will be joining forces to give temporary refuge to just a sliver of Edinburgh’s best home-made music, which can so easily get lost amidst the Fringe frenzy. Programmed by the notorious Bart Owl, the line-up over nine separate shows will include The Pictish Trail, Rob St John, Meursault, Emily Scott, My Kappa Roots and Wounded Knee, among many others, as well as a release party for eagleowl’s forthcoming (and very eagerly awaited) first EP. Artwork for our posters and flyers is being produced by Dan Willson of Withered Hand (also performing).
Retreat! will be happening in St John’s Church Hall, on the corner of Lothian Road and Princes Street, and will be hosted by Scottish Scullery, a temporary family-run café committed to celebrating Scottish produce and cuisine. We hope to compliment the ethos of the café in our provision of locally-sourced and ethically reared live music. And we’re also determined to make this thing affordable: tickets for each event will be a mere £3.

Retreat! was great fun. Hurrah! My best wishes for next time. Withered Hand was particularly good, although I could be biased, since we were playing with him... ;) Also, the cakes at the Scottish Scullery are OUTSTANDING. Highly recommended.
