- PRAISE FOR EAGLE SEAGULL -
"A perfectly executed debut album by the new US-Underground sensation.” - ROLLING STONE (Germany) - “Among the most gifted of the current crop of American bands. Capable of anything.” - DIE WELT - “Art-pop sensibilities of contemporaries like Wolf Parade and the Arcade Fire - an engaging, emotionally-wracked self-titled album.” - SPIN MAGAZINE - “Claustrophobic and celebratory. Majestic and intimate. And (almost) no comparisons.” - MUSIK EXPRESS - “If you consider ‘In Every Dream Home A Heartache’ to be one of the greatest ever Roxy Music tracks, Eagle Seagull is for you.” - DIE WELT - “Bowie-esque hysterics with a portion of Gilbert O’Sullivan.” - SPEX - “Can turn a song about loneliness and a wounding beauty into something you could dance to.” - RADIO FREE CHICAGO - “Maybe the next indie band from Nebraska to strike it big on an international level.” - LAZY-I - "Marquis de Sade would have liked Eagle Seagull." - FREDERICK FOXTROTT - "Eagle Seagull...proved far better than their...choice of a band name. The Nebraska-based six-piece electro-pop outfit, which at times featured two - count 'em, two! -synth players and a violinist, performed a pungent...set of angular dance-floor rock that recalled the Cure and the Rapture." - THE BOSTON GLOBE - "Eagle Seagull sound nothing like other contemporary indie rock artists. Their performance carried me back to the mid 70’s in NYC. The band’s danceable and sultry compositions carried weight of the superstars who made CBGB’s famous, most notably Television & The Talking Heads. In fact, it could have been an impromptu performance by David Byrne himself and the difference couldn’t have been determined. The bottom line: these guys are great." - CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND - "Fresh and funny songs that combine a well-orchestrated kitchen-sink aesthetic with the jubilant moroseness of the past generation of Smiths - both the Morrissey-led band and The Cure's gloomy Robert." - PASTE MAGAZINE -

When Eagle Seagull's debut album was released in early 2006 on fledgling label Paper Garden Records, the reaction was astounding: capital reactions in online forums, euphoric reviews in the underground press, listings in various “Best Of 2006” and “Bands to watch 2007” polls – there were too many to name all of them here. In the months that followed, Eagle Seagull progressed from just being a “hip name to drop” to playing packed venues, and the label – although still without a national distributor – had to re-press the debut CD for the umpteenth time. All this hubbub caught the attention of Lado, one of Germany’s most successful indie labels (The Gossip, Metric, Tocotronic), and Eagle Seagull's debut was released in Europe in October of 2006 to universal critical acclaim. They even earned themselves a spot on the Austrian Indie Charts at 2 - right behind The Killers - and a place in both Rolling Stone (Germany) and Spex magazine's Best of 2006 lists.
And all this turmoil - it has to be said – was caused by a band that doesn’t even fit into any existing genres. They created a world of sound all their own. And Eagle Seagull's songs were so chart-hostile that they rarely stayed under the 5-minute mark, preferring to reveal their secrets bit by bit.
So, what's next for the band? Their keenly anticipated new full length album, "The Year of the How-To Book", recorded with producer Ryan Hadlock (The Gossip, Blonde Redhead, Stephen Malkmus etc.), will be released in EARLY 2009. Rumor has it that it will feature several tracks less than 4 minutes long, and this, I believe, won’t be the only surprise. Expect the unexpected!
Rumstehen is nich, hin da!
