*The East of BitterSweet Story*
East of BitterSweet began without a name or a plan. Merely acquaintances on the school bus, Austin Davis and Jessica Breske discovered their shared passion for creating music. Jessica, a singer and lyricist, had written many songs but lacked the instrumental ability to develop them further. Austin, along with his younger brother Shawn had been creating and recording onto a computer, Shawn on drums and Austin on guitar and keys. Jessica offered to add lyrics to the brothers' creations and although Austin seemed interested at the time, he was hesitant. It took him 6 months before he and Shawn appeared at Jessica's front door asking her to join them in creating a band (May 5, 2005). Jessica had almost given up on the idea and so she immediately jumped at the opportunity. They began right away. The three walked 4 houses down to where the brothers lived and began working on one of Jessica's songs. "What's Comin'" was the first song they ever played and recorded together. Austin sent Jessica home with some of his and Shawn's previous recordings on a CD. On this CD, Jessica found the music for two more songs. "Moonlight" and "Tear Me to Pieces" were a success. It was around this time, with three original songs already under their belt, that the band knew they needed a name. It had by then become quite apparent that Austin had an expensive habit of breaking the strings on his guitar. It didn't matter what guitar he played, he always managed to break a string. From this realization, the name Broken Strings was developed. Although it was a great name for a band just starting out, as they're music improved and members were added, they began looking at the legal side of things. In order to develope further, they needed a more original name. After coming up with a number of duds, they came up with East of BitterSweet.
Between 2005 and 2007, a few members moved through the band but the original three members stayed the same. The other permanent members now include Tim Thielka on the rhythm guitar, Gordon Sill ..s, and Stanley McKelvey on Bass. East of BitterSweet continues striving toward their goal of "making it big". They are continuing to practice, perform, write, and record until they reach their goals because as it was so well put by Nickleback... "We all just wanna be big rock stars."
