Sounds Like
"They don't seem to be concerned with following trends, so their fresh, jazzy Latin sound is miles away from that of any other local band" - Miami New Times ///
"Self described fusionistas, Electric Piquete capture the perfect balance between Latin rhythms, funk and rock" - Miami.com
The band was founded by long-time friends Ed Rosado and Michael Mut in summer of 2007 as a way to get a spot at the yearly Hialeahfest held @ Churchill's Pub. What originally started as a reunion for Ed's previous band Rezidue instead turned into a brand-new project. The two principals continued to compose and rehearse together and eventually added guitarist Chris Core, saxophonist Ozzy Reyes, trumpet player Rich Dixon and trombonist John Normandin. The sextet now writes together and occasionally features other local musicians. Electric Piquete has now reentered the Shack North Studio with friend and producer Ferny Coipel (humbert | I Don't Know) to record a full-length CD. In 2009, the band performed at Red Bar Gallery, Tobacco Road, Lakes Cafe, Carnaval on the Mile, Jazid, Cuba Nostalgia, Big Fish, Finnegan's River, Bougainvillea's, FeSTiDAN, Dolphin Mall, WDNA 88.9FM live radio segment "Sound Theory", the Miami Music Festival, Churchill's for Landarado and a private party in Southwest Ranches. Electric Piquete was named "Best Latin Band" in the Miami New Times' Best of 2009 issue (06.11.09) and "Band of the Hour" by Miami.com (09.18.09). More high-profile shows and dates in Broward County are in store for 2010.
Come out and show some love for Monkey Village this Friday at Tobacco Road in Miami! We'll be celebrating our 22nd compilation of local music since 2005. Show time is 7:30 PM and 97¢ drinks from happy hour will still be flowing at that time but not for long! So Come out early and enjoy the Monkey Village All-Stars-never the same band twice!!
- The Monkey Village (MV) will be releasing their Twenty-second (22nd) compilation CD entitled Black and White at Tobacco Road (626 South Miami Avenue) on Friday, December 18, 2009.
The Monkey Village All-Stars, a rotating ensemble comprised of artists from the catalogue, will be performing select tracks from the new release, as well as tracks from past compilations.
In the past five years, the Monkey Village has released 4 different sets of compilations, 22 CDs in all: Family Fruit (2005, 6 CDs), Elements (2006, 4 CDs), Phases (2007, 4 CDs), Dimensions (2008, 4 CDs) and now the series of Colors, “Black & White” being the fourth of four for the year. The compilations run the gamut in styles; from the radio-friendly pop of Deblois to the IDM-like complexity of Nomatico Simpatico. All forms of musical expression are encouraged
The Monkey Village is a Miami-based collective comprised of musicians, visual artists and spoken word artists, with small branches in San Francisco, California and Asheville, North Carolina. Their main focus is to highlight the talent in the local underground scene, providing local artists an alternative avenue of expression.
"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell."
