Emma Jean Foster Fiege is the name on my driver's license. "Emma" means Universal one who heals. "Jean" means talented one. "Foster" means one who nourishes. "Fiege" is the family name of the German/American man I was married to for 9 years. We produced a wonderfully made daughter, Rachel Fiege who was born February 26, 1992. I am currently working as a vocal mentor and consultant at The Larkin Street Youth Center, a lead and background singer with www.TheURS.com also know as The Unauthorized Rolling Stones, a lead and background singer with Emmit Powell and the Gospel Elite, a lead and background singer at the Sunday Afternoon Fellowship, www.sundayafternoonfellowship.org, pastored by Rev. Douglass Fitch. I am a volunteer lead and background singer with The Glide Ensemble of Glide Memorial Unied Methodist Church in San Francisco located at the corner of Ellis and Taylor Street. I've worked with some wonderful musical groups including, in chronological order: with my sister Anita Mae Smith. We were known throughtout the church community as "Jean & 'Nita" and The Brown Sisters as children while attending Zion United House of Prayer for all Nations Church, Seattle Washington, pastored by Bishop Eugene Drayton.* My sister and I were also known as "The Brown Sisters" throughout our years at David T. Denny Jr. High School and Chief Sealth High School in Seattle Washington. My sister Anita and I always traveled with the school choirs as a featured gospel/folk music act. My sister is so gifted. She can play any song she hears on piano in any key without sheet music. While in elementary school, Anita was awarded a scholarship to take private at home piano lessons. Anita is the best pianist I've ever heard. Anita now resides in Ohio, I think. I wish I knew where. She's gonna make me go on the Oprah show! Just kidding. She deserves to have her privacy. It's her human right. Right? I support her decision. I miss her so much. She and I could be making an honest living serving God together, making music together, the kind of music that opens hearts so God can come in and save them. In 1973 I graduated from Chief Sealth High with a 3.6 grade point average. I was an honor roll student. I moved to Minnesota in the fall of the same year as a newly wed of 6 weeks. I worked as the assistant to the Principal of Jordan Jr. High School in Minneapolis, a bank teller at Hennipen Federal Savings & Loan, a manager trainee at J.C. Penneys in Edina Minnesota, A runway and fashion commercial model, a singer "Jean Johnigan" in "Herman Jones & The X-Citers and then Cohesion, both bands that I toured the midwest with singing the then most current top 40 hits. I personally knew Prince, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. After living in Minnesota for 6 years, I left, headed back to my hometown, Seattle Washington. I hung out with my mom for about 2 weeks then caught the Greyhound bus to Oakland California. I made Berkeley my new home 2 weeks later. I soon after joined John Turk & The Third Street Annex, The Glide Ensemble @ Glide Memorial Church, then Sylvester, Chain of Fools, MVP, The Soul Spots, Emma Jean And American Soul, Big Bang Beat, Linda Tillery & The Cultural Heritage Choir, Emmit Powell & The Gospel Elites, Joel Nelson Productions, Bobbie Web & Smooth Blues. I've served as the choir director at three different churches. During the not so busy periods as a fulltime musician I have worked as a security guard, psychiatric child care worker at The Burt's Children Center for two years and a program leader for 4 years at the Recreation Center for the Handicapped also know as The Janet Pomeroy Center. That job was another wonderful gift from the all mighty and loving God. I injured my back working there. I still could not stay away after they let me go. I loved working there. The clients and staff were great. We worked and partied together like a big family. Real Cool. I now work as a singing hostess at Max's, located at 601 Van Ness @ Golden Gate, The Opera Plaza in San Francisco. I lead customers to their tables and assist the bartenders. The food is great! I am there from 10:45am till 2:30pm Tuesdays through Thursdays only.
I am a 1997 Grammy nominated vocalist for my lead vocal participation on a children's album recorded with Linda Tillery & The Cultural Heritage Choir, Taj Mahal, Eric Bibb, Emma Jean Foster Fiege and a host of professional singers and musicians. The title of the album is "Shakin' a Tailfeather", an awesome CD. And I'm not just saying that cause I'm singing on it. I sing duet with Taj Mahal on 2 of the CD's tracks. "Everyday People" and "Rockin' Robin" are the two tracks I'm singing lead on with legendary blues guitarist and singer, Taj Mahal! I perform with the Unauthorized Rolling Stones for most of the dates listed on the calendar. The group is also know as the False God's when performing the original works of Rudy Colombini who does an outstanding version of Mick Jaggar. I like working with these guys. Great work! Great fun!
