I've written music for film, placed in a couple local cable ads, and plenty of stuff for Big Mountain skiing/snowboarding films & web content (mostly for my boys at Teton Gravity Research in WY :)
I name my cues after whatever happens to be on the tv in the background when I'm finishing up.
If the titles look familiar, thats what I was watching.
It all comes down to timing...right when the moment strikes to ask myself "what do I call this?"
My biggest influences (or composers I just like the most) would be Tyler Bates (300), Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard (TheDarkKnight), Paul Haslinger (Shoot'em Up), and Charlie Clouser (well, the movies he's scored, I wouldn't watch...but he's still killer) and Michael Giacchino (LOST and he's gonna knock that new Star Trek shizz out the park!). The real powerhouse guys!
