Let me first introduce myself with a Symphonic Suite I created in 2003. I didn't write the melody and it's an adaptation from an ancient Buddhist chant dated circa 8th century. And yes, in my leisure time I rework a lot of ancient Buddhist melodies into a more modern setting.
Now as you might have guessed, I am a classically trained composer. And I really enjoy writing for the orchestra, even though if it's only sampled! I hope there will be a chance when I can post a piece of mine performed by a real orchestra in the future.
So there is another side of me, an electronic side of me. I didn't start writing electronic pieces until a few years ago. To me, electronic music seems to be a more surrealistic means to communicate with others, whereas classical music is more about human passion and touch. I love both medium!
The first piece I posted on here Is Anyone There is one of the best loved electronic pieces I ever created. It's actually a small soundtrack piece written for my friend's CG animation. It's a fantasy story about the short life of a lonely street lamp in a deserted planet, which it finally committed suicide when it discovered there is nobody out there on that planet except itself. Sad story. If you like this piece, perhaps you might want to check out the animation and take a look too!
The second track on this page, Neptune Retrograde, was written for a modern dance performance "Smoke Factory" in 2002. You can check my Garageband.com page for more tracks I wrote for this show too. It was a show about the rave culture so all the tracks I have written were Electronica, ranging from Progressive House to psychedelic Trip-Hop and World Fusion. I chose the title Neptune Retrograde because the dark side of planet Neptune, in ancient astrology, represents illusion, indulgence and drugs. It certainly represents everything going wrong when a planet is in its retrograde motion too!
This track is also featured in the CD Hope Never Dies, a compilation CD of original songs to help raise money for the Mercy Corps Asian Tsunami Relief Campaign, distributed by IndieNetunes.
To be continued.
