SAN BERNARDINO - The city on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against the Hudson Theater seeking to shut the popular nightclub down for a year after scores of drug and nuisance complaints. Officials have spent more than a year compiling evidence that they say shows the club has become a haven for drug dealers and underage party-goers who often indulge in the drug Ecstasy and stay out way past curfew. "This place has been a complete nuisance for the city in every way you can possibly imagine," said Senior Deputy City Attorney Jolena Grider, who filed the 13-page suit in San Bernardino Superior Court. "They're specifically trying to attract juveniles and that's something we can't just let happen." Roger Diamond, a well-known attorney who represents Hudson owners Michael and Margaret Sherman, did not return a call for comment Tuesday. Undercover narcotics officers made more than 40 drug buys, mostly Ecstasy, at four events from July to November, the lawsuit states. Police said they ran out of money to purchase drugs before the end of each event because Ecstasy, marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine were so plentiful. Police were called to the Hudson 303 times from August 2008 to August 2009, including once for a fatal shooting. That was three times higher than the club with the second-most calls for service but that club was open seven days a week, while the Hudson is open just two nights a week. Men who enter the club are only subjected Advertisementto "cursory pat downs," and women are not searched because of their revealing clothing, the lawsuit states. Private security guards do not patrol the dance floor or restrooms, according to the document· When a police captain asked owner Michael Sherman about illegal drugs being sold and used at the Hudson, he said "he knew drugs were a major part of rave events, but defendants had
