Artist, actor, business man & activist are the talented skills of Newark, New Jersey native Franc Gonzalez, known to many as “Skolioné”, who began his passion and love for music at the age of 16.
Being of Puerto Rican and British West Indian decent, he displayed his passion for music by being involved in talent shows throughout school and later becoming a member of a rap group called “Divided Mindz.” The group was involved in various community activities and festivals but with time, they grew apart.
At a young age, Skolioné’s main interest before music was basketball. He had the aspirations of going to the NBA but due to unfortunate family circumstances, his interests drifted and Skolioné became involved with the “Street Life.” Being raised in the tough neighborhoods of Newark, Skolioné took a step back and from his trial and tribulations, began to make his musical skill flourish. With musical influences ranging from Nas, Rakim to Tupac, a man whom Skolioné strongly admired for his empowering messages and political activism, Skolioné was sparked to take the rap game to a level that would create the mindset of the “hood” from being a negative persona into a positive one. He aspires to create opportunities within his music that can motivate his listeners from all walks of life, as well as guide them to a direction whether political or educational. He believes that life is not all negative and if you put your mind to things, the outcome is rewarding.
This invigorating rapper began his involvement in the entertainment industry by being a model for Tommy Hilfiger in the late 90’s and with time expanded his abilities to what today is an accomplishment of 5 music videos, involved in numerous mixtapes, obtaining a devoted fan base with over 2 million play hits online, in production of creating a man’s urban wear and accessory line as well as currently working on a few movie scripts for an upcoming major motion picture film. All these are just some of the multi-talented skills Skolioné has displayed to show his determination.
If you think his diversity ends there, well, it only has begun. Skolioné has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. He has performed in various parades including the New York’s Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. He has also been the opening act to an array of artist including 50 Cent, Jim Jones, Rick Ross, Sean Paul, just to name a few.
Skolioné describes his music and lyrical skills as “unorthodox.” His uniqueness is not only a rare commodity but rather endless and phenomenal.
