Some people have a hard time fitting into different places, but that was never the case for Hardkore.
“I’m not gonna act like I had the hardest upbringing when I was growing up,” says the 19-year-old rapper. “But people fail to realize that I lived in some of the toughest neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale and I’m just keeping it as real as I can when I rap. My parents sacrificed to make sure I had a good education and instead of living in a fancy house or driving nice cars, we lived in apartments for most of my life and moved to a few different places after I stayed in Deepside for the majority of my childhood.”
Hardkore, known to his parents as Corbin Moseley, was born on December 12, 1988 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While most kids in elementary school were worried about sports and video games, ‘kore was always busy writing rhymes. The young artist claims to have had several notebooks filled with rhymes from fifth grade up until the beginning of high school. Several friends of Hardkore noticed his small hobby and encouraged him to freestyle in front of other classmates and teachers from time to time.
During high school is when Hardkore really began to find his niche. After winning some money at an impromptu freestyle battle at a friend’s birthday party in 9th grade, Hardkore really began to take his craft seriously and began recording songs at home. Though the audio quality of the songs was not incredible, people started to take notice at Hardkore’s work ethic. By 10th grade, the group Death Before Dishonor (featuring Hardkore, Janova, and Wizzy) was formed and the crew began recording a mixtape. Unfortunately, the mixtape was never realesed but the group soon met RJ Scheller, the president of Live and Breathe Records. The group’s debut album, Shuttin’ Em Down, was released in April 2007 and it was released on iTunes in July 2007.
Hardkore has also been a big name in the Florida rap freestyle battle circuit. He has been in several unscripted street battles and also in various competitions in Boca Raton, Miami, and Orlando. His best accomplishment was a second place finish in 2007’s Scribble Jam Pre-lim competition in Orlando. If he had won in the finals, he would have battled in Cincinnati in the Scribble Jam Main Event for $5,000. He still battles today and will be seen in various DVDs in the near future.
Hardkore plans on working on a solo project very soon and his first mixtape is available for free online at http://www.soundclick.com/kore954.
