About me: Ok, so this is a page is solely for my efforts with Relay for Life. A little about me first would probably be best. I was born in 1985, the first year that Relay for Life was started and the year my mother passed away. I was born on July 3rd 1985, no more than 9 months later, my mother passed of Colon Cancer. I lived most of my life unaware of the impact of Cancer and certainly unaware that there was anything I could do as an individual to stop it. 9 years ago I found out for the first time what Relay for Life was all about. I found that it was an opportunity for not only myself but an entire community to come together and selflessly and whole heartedly give everything of themselves to others and the fight against Cancer. I, from that moment on, knew that I was always going to be involved somehow with the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life always. Last year the one person in my life who has always been my backbone and role model was diagnosed with cancer...my father. I always had this feeling in me that NO matter what, my Dad could never get hurt, never suffer, and could never be taken away from me. One of the greatest men I have ever met and am truly proud to say he is my Father, was able to push himself and get through 6 months of Chemo, surgery, and constant pain and suffering. He now is doing extremely well and thanks to the constant help and work from the doctors and the ACS my whole family and my father can sleep a little easier at night.
I am only 1 person, but I have a goal. I go to a Relay for Life event and I walk away feeling overjoyed because of the amount of love and energy and simplicity of life involved. My goal would be to have a nationwide Relay for Life where everyone is involved and walking, running, and enjoying the life they have, embracing those around them, and celebrating the lives of ones we have lost and are still suffering. I am only person but with the help of an entire community we can make a HUGE difference. Join me in this fight and let's all be a part of a community as ONE!!! Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back!!

Hi Michael..Thanks for adding us. Your story inspires me. I too lost my mother to cancer, but I was 19 and she was 50. My father also battled and won. Best of luck in your fundraising efforts. Together, we really can make a difference!
