Knewdles and Sos are unusual Korean sisters, to say the least. Despite their marriageable ages, they choose to live and make hip hop together in their Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn brownstone.
Knewdles (Kickin New Elevation When Daily Life Expects Sobs), the taller one, is MC and producer. One word spit and ability is clear. While clearly not a battle MC, Knewdles comes hard with aggressive flows and tight command over crowds. But don't get it twisted. She is also quite distinctly a femcee, bringing emotion and vibrance to her whole artistry. Fueled by a reflective perspective and unique upbringing, Knewdles is an identity politic hip hop music artist who shares her self and her life truthfully, with the humble conviction that, by doing so, humanity benefits.
Sos (pronounced "sauce") (Sis On Strings), is violinist and co-producer. She's the beat, or, heartbeat, of the outfit. Her soulful strings provide a unique counterpart to Knewdles's vocals, and make the Misnomer(S) sound infinitely more potent. A melding of Classical with Hip Hop with Jazz, Sos's style is distinctly her own as she happily rejects the boxes so typically placed on violinists. Known as much for her pleasant demeanor as for her rich, somewhat sorrowful tone, it's no surprise that Sos has also blessed the music of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Alicia Keys, DJ Green Lantern, Immortal Technique and Hasan Salaam.
Since teaming up three years ago, the sisters have been blessed to perform countless shows in the tri-state area, make local and national television and radio appearances, and self-produce and record the Misnomer(S) debut album. Together, they have steadily built a diverse audience that crosses boundaries of sex, race, age, and class. And although they plan to live apart eventually, Knewdles and Sos will always remain committed to building and evolving, to creating value in their various communities by social activism through their art, and to exposing more and more people to their music. The full-length debut album of Misnomer(S), American Eyes, will be dropping SOON!, and their commercial campaign for Converse One Star for Target is already officially everywhere.
