Musical Styles: I am not bound by narrow minded concepts of music, I see a universe that stretches beyond my own imagination. I appreciate all forms of music except country, top forty, and bullshit bubble gum pop, I especially appreciate music based in and around Electronics, heavy percussive beats, and middle eastern and world influences. Primary musical passion from childhood to now: Rock, Rockabilly, Punk, Ska, Raggae, Jazz, Traditional Middle Eastern Music, New Wave, Progressive House, Industrial, Techno, Trance, Drum and Bass, DubStep and beyond. I've never been an emotional fan of pop music in any form but I do not deny good music when I hear it. As I got older I expanded my taste not to forget the past but embrace and build from past experiences. This is one reason my music is so diverse. I have so much passion for music that I don't tie my hands behind my back I let my mind fly and I create music... sometimes it's soft and will bring old ladies to tears - sometimes it's fresh and hip impressing the "coolest" club kids and sometimes it's hard core in your face expressing deep seeded feelings of concern for the world around us and our human race. It doesn't rain everyday so why should my music stay the same.

Hipnautica in it's currently form reformed in 2006 but this represents over 15+ years development of Sky, often referred to as the "wizard of oz". Sky an original old skool solo electronic musician from the late 80's and early 90's has been based in Austin TX for several years but is a world traveler and brings with him these influences into his music and art. Today hipnautica encompasses and presents the talents of many different musicians, performers, dancers, and artists to present unique thematic presentations. "We are a performance chameleon, seamlessly transmigrating genres and styles from our sorted past. We blend gothic undertones with industrial, Techno, Trance and Tribal beats, we blend psychedelic and world influences to create a sound which is distinctly hypnotic. It's been our intention to present the highest quality sound within the underground but time and budget are often working against us. We constantly strive to infuse new concepts and ideally hope to be recognized for creating a unique tone. At times we are harsh and in your face with pounding beats and at times we passively meander through organic layers but always intended to create supernatural soundscapes to inspire our audience."
Hipnautica is a "collective tribe", unbridled by genre classification. We present eclectic performances and music that speaks from our souls incorporating members as the show calls for and as their time permits. Not every member will attend every performance. Some performers appreciate and relate to different aspects of this project and thus are compelled and inspired in different ways. Like a musical chameleon we seamlessly weave through a multitude of styles to create an original hybrid sound. Constantly we explore creative process and we ask that you support this aspect of this project first and foremost. We hope that you will relate to some of what we do and perhaps find inspiration from all that we do. We are currently independent fueled by our passion and the financial support of our fans, sponsors, and venues that hire us. We deeply appreciate your support. As artists we will constantly explore new ideas to express ourselves in ways that reflect the personalities of our tribe... we hope you join us on this journey.
The original Hipnautica was started in 2003 with Trick Appeal Galore and Jordan Jones but unfortunately after a year of working on 6 songs patience faltered and Sky imploded. So he took a year to regroup and during that time re-evaluated his writing & recording processes, simplified things, and explored a new approach to the "band" paradigm. After a trip to China and near fatal incident, Sky unlocked new inspiration and the artist within him was awakened. He quickly gathered new equipment and restructured his approach... going back to his roots as a solo electronic musician. Realizing that if he could get out into the public eye he would find kindred spirits and warriors to join him and strengthen his independent efforts. In less than 6 months a stellar clan of musicians, artists and dancers started to assemble... and thus a new Hipnautica was born. An organic collective, a creative tribe, an ever changing project that has performed over 50+ shows in the first year, and hit 5 different states... we sit poised on the edge and look towards the future with deep appreciation for all of you that have supported this project.
Our next performance is December 18, 2009: On the 18th of December I join Death is Not a Joyride, and Gobi for a night of music. What will make this night different. Well for one thing... John from DINAJ and Sky are talking about starting to work together to blend our musical styles to converge within the end of their live set and the beginning of ours. We first started working on this idea during an impromptu session with John and Andrew of DINAJ during our ART OUTSIDE performance this past month. The results were so incredible that it's something we had to repeat. We're very excited about presenting a hybrid live set merging our two bands into one dynamic presentation. There is talk of a cover song by the Beatles but not sure of all that just yet. Bottom line is Gobi is great fun, and DINAJ and HIPNAUTICA are going to collaborate to present a once in a life time performance that you won't want to miss. We most likely will not perform again until this show so mark your calendar now.
You just missed us at: FRIENDS OF PAIN TRIBE PRESENT ATONE
A memorial fundraiser for Colby Watkins and a celebration of his legacy.
WHEN?: NOVEMBER 19th 2009 WHERE?: ELYSIUM (705 Red River, Austin TX 78701) WHY?:.... that is a very good question....
On Wednesday September 16, a friend of ours and many, Colby Watkins (of the ICU, , PAIN TRIBE, Sunken City Sideshow Circus, House of Shock, Voodoo Fest) took an untimely death. Colby was somwhat troubled individual as many of us are, but he was also a very generous person capable of so much love, and he had so much more to share and give to this world, to his friends and family, and more importantly to people who had not met him yet and now won't have that opportunity. He took care of me and my clan on our first tour, when we came to New Orleans with Voodoo Velkro just this past year. But he and I knew of each other and walked within many of the same circles for years. Everyone was shocked at this tragedy. His contributions to the Austin and New Orleans underground are a thing of legend and he is missed.
We come together with members of the I.C.U. a ritual suspension and body mod performance group Austin back in the late 90's that I used to support when they were performing at ATOMIX (now elysium, previously). Members of his current group the PAIN TRIBE will be coming in from New Orleans to perform especially in his honor for this rare event, a reunion, a memorial, a fund raiser, a celebration, and a gathering of kindred tribes... including CHANT, HIPNAUTICA, TAP WATER MIND CONTROL (ATLANTA), and several DJ legends - JOHN GOMI, JOHNNY SLUGG, CHRIS KING at the home base where Colby started his journey into ritual suspensions as a performance art form. There will also be a silent auction with contributions from SLEEP NOW YES, LUCID DEMENTIA, SUBNATURAL, CHANT, HIPNAUTICA, ELYSIUM, and many more to be announced. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the COLBY WATKINS MEMORIAL FUND to support his family and the PAIN TRIBE.
While many do not understand, or appreciate the art in body modification or ritual suspensions and associate these acts with S&M, and Bondage. I want to be very clear that while there are often close ties the PAIN TRIBE is not about sado masochistic abuse, they do not condone violence upon others. They embrace ancient tribal rituals for both self gratification, self examination, ritual journey and through this provide awareness and entertainment value through this process publicly. They have been written up countless times, and had national and international press and deserve our respect for their dedication.

OUR BRAND NEW CD IS FINALLY COMPLETE
We proudly present EXILE, the first in a quadratic series which will be dedicated to different elements that make Hipnautica - more than your average band. The music of this first CD focuses on the fire within Hipnautica, presenting some of our classic songs with more energy, heavier guitar lines, new synth lines and all new vocalizations. The new album includes the work of some of our longest standing members and two newer members. Sky's compositions are brought to full fruition with himself on Vocals and Machines, Pixie on Convulsion & Xhi on Volatile joined by Guymon Adams (guitars) on all trax, Erik Ryan (bass) on Convulsion, Blue (drums and vocals) and Al Montana (bass) on Volatile. "Whether the world will like the songs or not, the results are most definitely hands down the best recordings of my music career and I'm very proud of Exile.... ~sky". Like most everything Hipnautica does, Exile crosses multiple genres with influences from Industrial, Gothic, Techno, Trance, EBM, DubStep, and of course go ol' rock in roll. This is hands down the most powerful collection of our music today and is the first of four new CDs' planned as a quadratic series. "Now that I have the recording process down with my new equipment I'm confident future albums will be delivered even faster ~sky " As for the Quadratic Series, each album is intended to represent a different elements of our extensive music collection the breadth of music Sky is writing for Hipnautica... FIRE represents the fierce strength and power within Hipnautica, Water represents the deep hypnotic layers of organics, AIR represents the trance induced ethereal dreams, and Earth represents the World music, dub, raggaeton, electronic gypsy within us. "To me the world is music and as a musician since birth, it's my intention to present my interpretation of the world around me some days I experience beautiful things within our humanity and within this world, and other times I'm torn down by the problems many of us face on a personal, social, political and spiritual level. My music fluctuates but always true on course with what I consider a universal inspiration.~sky"

CYANIGHT ~ 4 NIGHT OF UNDERGROUND MAYHEM is OVER:
OUR CYANIGHT TOUR began in NEW ORLEANS on Tuesday August 11th as we left Austin to meet up with Voodoo Velkro and Colby with the Pain Tribe Crew and DJ Gomi. Thanks to the support of Arstrada Magazine, Razorblade Society, Puzzelle Productions, ATX Underground, and Austin Electronic Music Grid not to mention of course the HI HO LOUNGE, ELYSIUM and ATOMIX. Unfortunately just as we left austin in the rental van... we heard from HaVoK in houston who had to cancel over 20 events, due to them loosing their lease at the Blue Door... this was a big blow financially but we are road warriors and pushed onward through the fog. Thanks to the support of PAIN TRIBE who performed with us in New Orleans and fair price on hotels in New Orleans we survived. We were proud to launch this momentous occasion (1st Hipnautica Tour and the release our first major CD) in New Orleans thanks to Colby Watkins and the Pain Tribe.
New Orleans, has a bitter sweet spot for our crew because Tinkr and Sky both have family there and they lost alot during Katrina, Blue (drums) & Guymon Adams (guitars) were both ousted by the Bitch Katrina and met through Hipnautica 3 years later. While Hipnautica is not remotely considered a local to New Orleans group, this was a coming home for us on a few different levels.
Instead of heading to Houston on Aug 13th, and having too little time to secure another gig... we headed back to Austin to prepare for our show at Elysium on August 14th and waited in Austin for VOODOO VELKRO who stayed an extra day in NOLA to hang out with Pain Tribe. The Austin show went well, about 3/4 of our normal turn out but it's the summer, we missed a few of our friends but saw a ton of new faces which was very appreciated. I want to personally thank John of Elysium and his crew and especially our sound man Chuck as well our DJs' Prophet, Void, and SubSpace Freakquency who came on board to support our first tour and our party in Austin... you all rocked. Not to mention three very hot special guest Go Go Dancers: INFINITI, ACID QUEEN and SPARKLE MOTION.
On august 15th we shot down to San Antonio to hit our favorite underground club in San Antonio Club ATOMIX thanks to DJ INFERNO. SLEEP NOW YES started the night, followed by us, and then VOODOO VELKRO. Despite a few technical problems with the sound system I heard nothing but good things from the fans and friends in the audience as well as a few strangers. I was personally honored by a couple that had seen our video on ME Television a couple days before in Austin and came down to San Antonio to see our show because they just missed us the night before in Austin... pretty cool.
Keep an eye out for our next CYANIGHT tour as we prepare the next installment of our quadratic CD series and next performance and be sure to pickup a new CD directly from us or through Secret Oktober (South 1st - Austin).
"Check out our first official music video, released in March of 2009 during SXSWi at the Palmer Event Center and Elysium. Destination is Unknown is one of my oldest songs but revamped multiple times through the years. It speaks of a concern of over population, overcrowding, and excessive consumption which leads to the eventual destruction of our humanity. I had forgotten about this song until a visit to China where the evidence is significantly higher due to the level of distance between the impoverished and the upper class, and the amount of trash and poor air quality. As bad as many think they have it here in the United States I have witness true destitution and starving poverty. I've traveled the world, I have friends in multiple countries and I recognize more than ever the impact we are all having across this planet. I've always felt we were all in this together but through the years I've learned to recognize this more than ever. I wrote these lyrics in the early 90's but they seem to ring more true today. Begin to repurpose, recycle, and reuse - save our environment and live a better life today ~sky"
