The
reason why I started this myspace page is because I used to be so sick
and tired of my 9-5 job working as a corporate executive for Ernst
& Young. I just hated working for someone else because my boss
used to always get on my nerves. And that's why I started my own
internet business online. I
also created this myspace page because I want to meet, network, and
give back to other newbie entrepreneurs who are in the same situation
just like i was... and hopefully my story can help inspire you to
discover a better alternative just like I did when I started working
from home, being my own boss, and making money online. But before I get
into all of that... let me just tell you a little bit about myself... I'm
37 and I live in New York (Riverdale - 15 min drive from Yankees
stadium) with my beautiful wife Maggie. You can see us in the photos
above.
I'm
Korean by blood, born to a father who immigrated from Korea to Japan at
age 16 and to a mother who was born and raised in Japan by Korean
immigrant parents. My dad was one of the first eight professional
wrestlers in Japan. You can see his photo above as well. Yes. he was a
HUGE man... physically but more importantly a big hearted man. When I
hear the quote "larger than life", he is the one I think of. Both my
parents are my role models til this day.
My
parents both owned businesses. My dad owned an athletic training center
upon retiring from his professional wrestling career. He had a few
fights in the U.S. as I understand it, although I was not born yet when
he had these U.S. fights. My mom owned a Korean barbecue restaurant
where my brothers and I helped out since we were in the six grade. My
second eldest brother now manages the restaurant, going strong for the
2nd generation =)
I
was born and raised in Japan as the youngest of three sons. I went to a
Catholic International School from kindergarten through high school as
did my brothers. Upon graduation, I flew to the U.S. to attend Rutgers
University (Camden, NJ campus of all places... this is what you get for
picking a campus merely through catalog photos and not actually
physically visiting... the curriculum was good but the town was, well,
let's say it was one of the top three crime rate cities in the country
back then... probably still is). Struggling
my way through culture shock and
communication challenges, I earned my bachelor of science degree in
Business Management (minor in Economics) with honors. Upon
graduation, I immediately moved to New York and landed an entry level
position with Ernst & Young (CPA firm) in the Entrepreneurial
Services group in the tax department despite not having an accounting
degree. The single biggest
driver in accepting the position was that the firm supported me for my
working visa (which all non-US citizens are required to have in order
to work in the US) and also offered to sponsor me for the green card
(U.S. permanent residency). Another big reason was that a position
within the 'Entrepreneurial Services' group attracted me as I always
wanted to be an entrepreneur deep inside. The accounting and tax
experience do help me a great deal as an entrepreneur today.
I
worked really hard to learn the trade and attended night classes after
work to take all the necessary accounting and tax courses to satisfy
the educational requirements for sitting for the CPA (certified public
accountant) exam. It took a few years but successfully passed the CPA
exam and got my license. I worked for the firm for 15 years. The first
half of my career there was to serve multi-national clients. The latter
half of my career was focused on serving Japanese corporate clients.
All in all, my experience in this field has helped me increase my
financial literacy and how various businesses actually work and
operate. It also provided me with the opportunity to work with very
smart people from diverse cultures and backgrounds that enabled me to
appreciate differences and collaboration. I
also met my wife here. Since we worked in the same group, we had to
play undercover for a few years (although I've later noticed that we
were the only ones thinking it was 'undercover'...). I used to be her
boss... now she's my boss! =) So,
I do know a thing or two about working hard... diligence seems to be
ingrained in me through my parents, my experiences, etc. Also, I have
worked effectively with people from different countries and cultures (I
am bilingual, Japanese & English; my beautiful wife Maggie is
originally from Hong Kong. I'm working on my Cantonese; my eldest
brother is married to a Polish and my second eldest to a Korean; you
can safely say we have a mini United Nations going on in our family). I
love meeting people from different cultures and learning about them and
their cultures.
Alongside my professional
career, I
rediscovered my passion for Taekwon-do at age 26 (I first learned it in
college from a Korean law student) and kept at it after work and
eventually earned my 4th degree black belt last year under Grandmaster
Suk Jun Kim (9th degree, original member of the ITF demonstration
team). He has been my father figure after my dad passed away
when I was 25 (sorry Master Kim! you are not that old, I know!). I've
had the pleasure of traveling to Korea to train twice at the Taekwon-do
headquarters (Kukkiwon) with former gold medalists, Korean national
team members and professional Taekwon-do teams. I continue to practice
Taekwon-do as well as teach it at our upper west side school
I'm also a sports enthusiast who enjoy more playing than watching. I enjoy playing all kinds of sports including soccer, baseball and tennis.
I was the captain of the high school soccer team and led the team to league championship. We have won multiple championships in soccer throughout high school. I'm currently the captain of a soccer team in New York playing on weekends... sports enthusiasm never dies!
I just love playing team sports because of the comradeship that we form and the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life who simply get together for a good old fun and competition.
Maggie and I are currently in the process of forming a not-for-profit organization to promote the benefits of getting involved in sports and martial arts. This is our passion, our current baby project and our big "WHY". I get this influence from my dad as well.
Trading time for money started to get boring
Like most people I came to online marketing because I realized that while I had a good standard of living I did not have that much free time to enjoy it.
Having a "good job" with a "good company", you'd think life is pretty good right? Well, the harder I worked and the higher I climbed the corporate ladder, the busier I got with more work and responsibilities piling up on me. I'd leave the house at 7am every morning, hop on the fully packed subway to work, and return home late every night. I worked 60-80 hrs/week constantly and was always thinking about my clients, project deadlines, and about the people I worked with (issues that they were facing, how to make things better, etc.). I often found myself not being 'present' even when I found time to spend time with my wife, family & friends.
Was this really the lifestyle that I had dreamed of in my 20s? Sure we had a decent co-op apartment, holidays and could afford to go out but we’d just got a new 15 year mortgage to pay and the thought of having to work at the same level for another thirty years, in an almost workaholic state, really scared me.
So, I began to research home based business opportunities as a way of breaking out of the 9 to 5 (it was actually more like 9 to 9) rat race and generating sufficient passive income to be comfortable financially and have more precious time to do what I love to do.
One of my main goals was to get a lifestyle. I didn't have enough time in my life for my hobbies like traveling the world, teaching taekwon-do, playing soccer, baseball, attend a culinary school to learn how to cook professionally, etc. As a tax professional, I knew of the huge tax saving benefits of owning a home based business. I also knew that the money and time freedom that I sought was not going to come from me continuing to climb the corporate ladder. I wanted to live my life on my terms and not having to answer to any boss, not having to be stuck in the rat race anymore.
That's when I stumbled upon the network marketing industry. I was totally skeptical at first, but after doing my own due diligence and finding out how people like Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki were endorsing the industry, I put aside my skepticism, open my closed mind and look into what the industry had to offer.
I joined an MLM, but it was VERY old school... you know, attack all your friends and family! Definitely not my style.
So,
I turned to the Internet... and that's where I
found Mike Dillard's way of building a business:
Magnetic
Sponsoring.
No more chasing friends...
No more trying to "trick" my family...
Using this "funded proposal" type of system with up-front cash, it gave me a new perspective. I now saw that there really is another alternative than just working for a boss you hate for the rest of your life, or chasing after friends and family to succeed in the network marketing industry.Oh, and one other thing. I am no longer with any MLM company because I've realized that building a full-time income, or even a residual income through MLM in the internet age is like trying to fill a leaking bucket - with 90% of distributions spending much more money than they'll ever make. I did not want to deal with downline attrition and tiny commission checks. Instead, I chose in favor of the increasingly popular G.P.T. business model.
So that's why I created this myspace page. This really changed my life and I would love to network and work with like-minded people and really get the word out. So I encourage you to check out my websites at MLMGoldMine.com and AttractionMarketingDojo.com, or better yet feel free to give me a call at 206-339-7843. I would love to chat and hear your story...
