‘J-Slyme’ is Founder/CEO of Ize Lo Beats, an affiliate of Décor Records’ Dy Corps Regime, and Supreme Court Entertainment’s R-Villianz collective. The Queens bred hip hop producer is also an aspiring artist with a passion for rhymes as well. As a youth growing up in Jamaica Queens’ Rochdale Village in the late 80’s, early-mid 90’s, he participated in every aspect of the culture. Starting as a graffiti artist & b-boy, he then progressed into deejaying & rhyming. In high school, Slyme was a known beatboxer and was always the one to spark a cipher. Battling in the staircases or by the benches was the normal for his Rochdale Vill click, Da PhamChIze aka Chinky Ize Pham. He and his cohorts, VI and Just would spend many nights writing rhymes, mixing, scratching and sampling records in Just’s miniature bedroom studio. Once graduating in 1997, Slyme formed another rap group, Ize Lo, a collective consisting of him and his peeps from Rosedale, Queens. It was during his stint in the group that Slyme really began to develop his production skills.
In 1999, after the group broke up, Slyme was motivated enough to pursue producing further. He started out by buying a Boss DR-5 beat machine which he had already gotten familiar with. Over the next two years, Slyme excelled in his mastery of the DR-5, while providing tracks to local artists in Rochdale, Rosedale, and Lefrak, Queens. In 2001, Slyme decided to enroll in The Institute of Audio Research where he planned to certify himself as a producer/engineer and launch his Ize Lo Beatz production company. Although he wound up not finishing the program, Slyme instead opted to teach himself the craft. He has since added a Triton keyboard and a MP-2000xl to his production repertoire but still uses the DR-5 as well. This creative mixture is the ooze that gives Slyme the ability to mutate his sound into variations. Some of his early influences include producers such as Premier, Marley Marl, Prince Paul, Pete Rock, Large Professor, & Kenny Parker. Then in the mid 90’s it was Da Beatminerz, The RZA, Havoc, L.E.S., Diamond D., Easy Mo. Bee, Derrick ‘D.Dot’ Angelettie, Nashiem Myrick, & Ron ‘Amen Ra’ Lawrence. Since 2000, its been Swizz Beatz, The Neptunes, Alchemist, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Scott Storch, & Lil John that inspire him. Taking a page(or two) from all their producing handbooks like the mad scientist he is, Slyme created a hybrid sound of sorts which has no distinctive identity. Each beat is grafted to have a life of its own.
In 2001, right around the same time, Slyme was beginning IAR, his man VI was returning from school with plans to launch Décor Records along with his former college roommate, Richmond bred rapper, C.Billz. Through their mutual bond to VI, Slyme and Billz made an immediate connection and shared creative chemistry. At that time Décor hadn’t yet secured a recording facility to work on its label projects, so it was understood that once the situation was correct, Slyme would jump aboard. It took VI & Billz three years to establish Décor and in 2004 they partnered with Iranian-born, California bred producer, Bagdad Bob and helped him establish his Drug Machine/Dirty Labs facility Uptown, NYC. That same year, VI also helped Just jumpstart his Supreme Court Ent. production company based in Queens through the release of mixtapes. Finally in March 2005, Slyme reunited with his longtime partners, and officially became a player on the team. He has since recording tracks in Dirty Labs with Supreme Court artist & fellow Rochdale native, Genaside and Décor’s C.Billz, and even collaborated with Bagdad on producing several songs. Their relationship had evolved into Ize Lo Beats becoming an affiliate of Drug Machine Music and Slyme being appointed President of Dirty Labs Studios. There he provided production/engineering for Décor Records & Supreme Court artists/projects. Since parting ways with Drug Machine in the summer '05, and spending most of '06 in limbo, Slyme, V.I., & Just have resurfaced back with a new production & recording facility, Victory Lodge Studios in Rochdale, Queens. In 2010, Slyme aims to elevate his production and make a mark in the music business by supplying beats to many of the industries leading artists & hungriest upcoming talents. Besides working on in-house Décor & Supreme Court projects, Slyme will also be a featured artist on the R-Villianz mixtape series.
