Jim Frazzitta singing "Captain Livingston" on the shore of Lake George, NY.
Jim Frazzitta is a singer/songwriter whose passionate blend of guitar, vocals, and harmonica is as resonant as it is mesmerizing. His compositions are rooted in folk tradition yet address contemporary themes.
Jim grew up in Dix Hills, Long Island and began writing songs over thirty years ago. He was taught the fundamentals of guitar and harmonica by his grandfather. This plus his love for the folk and rock music of the 60‘s and 70’s fueled his inspiration to develop as a performing songwriter.
Throughout the 90’s, Jim was the leader of Nylon & Steel, a jam-band whose sound was described as “folk-groovin’.” The band built up a dedicated local following through its numerous shows (called “Folk-Groovin’ Gatherings”), radio airplay, and its self-published newsletter, Freakshow.
In 2001 they released an album of Jim's songs entitled Slip Behind the Molecule on their own label, Molecule Music. It went on to receive radio airplay worldwide, including WBAI, NY (Morning Dew program); KIOS–Omaha, NE; KUMD–Duluth, MN; WBNI–Indianna; and it was in rotation on the U.K.‘s internationally syndicated Folkswagon program.
Since the breakup of the band in 2003, Jim has continued on as a solo artist. He hosts The Folk-Groovin’ Café—a regular event held at St. Lawrence of Canterbury’s Performance Center in Dix Hills and occassionally at Huntington’s Conklin Barn.
In June, 2008, Jim released his solo debut album, Twenty Years Below. It contains 10 original compositions. It is essentially an accoustic effort and is centered on the theme of longing and redemption.
Jim will be performing extensively in support of this record. Stay tuned for upcoming dates.
