Here's a look listen...

Live on Sunday Morning at 11 on uStream

I've always been told a "Stream of Consciousness..." and "music that's pushing the edge but comfortably in the middle". One review once said that I might not sell alot of records as my music felt a "bit under the skin and pushed people to feel more than they might like..." - perhaps that is a good thing... . Around 1984 when my musical focus was a bit low as well as artistic confidence after an extremely academic musical education I heard a spark from a random needle drop on a then record from a label called Windham Hill. Unfortunately I didn't get the artist's name at the time and searched for 6 months for what I had heard. From that search however I got an eye opening to a range of artists put together by ironically another influence found in the quest of the first - Michael Hedges and Will Ackerman. Every now and then people will hear Nick Drake in what I do probably because of the range of guitar tunings, meaning changing of the string pitches from the way the guitar is normally tuned. Nick did this alot. Equally I like periods of Dave Matthews and find some parallel in his muse - Richard Thompson, Bruce Cockburn, Peter Case... . Of course modern composers such as Steve Reich and Terry Riley. Love Bill Frisell and David Torn and Robert Fripp.

I'm a composer/guitarist living in Brooklyn, NY. My instrumental music journeys through many styles and influences including Celtic, modern classical, World, minimalist and Americana. I've been inspired by the likes of Michael Hedges, Will Ackerman, John Fahey, Nick Drake, Steve Reich, Michael Manring, O'Carolan and Bach to go back to other times.
Jim Goodin performing Departures a special song written in memory of Michael Hedges, in a short video clip shot on a Brooklyn rooftop.

I work as a solo acoustic guitarist and with the duos', Chinapainting, an acoustic guitar based/tape looping collaboration with composer/guitarist Daryl Shawn and with East of Where with author/composer/drummer/percussionist Will Romano. I co-host the acoustic guitar performance concept, Language of 3 with guitarist Matt Richards and promote and orchestrate, Wood and Wire Music representing myself and 7 other artists.

My first CD, Celtic Journey to The Path recorded in 1999 is available on CDBaby and is available for digital download purchase as individual songs or complete CD from iTunes.

My solo guitar CD's Found, Live - Words & Music, Stories My Guitar Told Me and Through the Door and my newest Skipping the Lightare available on-line through the Jim Goodin CD Store. Skipping the Light is also available for digital download purchase as individual songs or complete CD from iTunes

Catch me on uStream.tv LIVE in my bi-weekly webcast, Sunday Morning at 11, a 30 minute live set of improvisational acoustic music on fretted/fretless guitars, oud and loops.

Visit, subscribe and download the C H I N A P A I N T I N G monthly podcast series, documenting excerpts from NinJam on-line sessions as well as live performances.

Hi Jim,
I've never heard of that ReUse thing - maybe another Os has done something on it.
Another ninjam would be good - in fact I think it would be my first with you - I think it was just Miek before, wasn't it?
best,
os.
