Influences
Wow the older I get and more I experience the handful of influences particularly my early ones such as Michael Hedges who sadly left us in 1997, was a profound influence for me in my mid-20's when I first heard him from a random 'needle drop' while looking for a piece of music for a documentary video I was helping produce. I heard Michael at a time when I was to some degree starting all over musically after going through a rather conservative musical education.
Certainly modernists' Barber, Bartok figure high and minimalist composers I've always responded to and with the current interests in looping we all owe a lot to Terry Riley.
Will Ackerman, someone I've gotten an opportunity to meet and record at his studio in recent years is a powerful influence to me. As Hedges, not so much in physical style but more in thought.
Robert Fripp's beautiful record from several years ago Let the Power Fall still hovers in my head and was influencial in my composition Clocks.
The spacial voicings of pianists' such as George Winston have influenced my keyboard stylings but also I can't say enough about Bill Evans who at times said so much in so little with his beautiful voicings.
I am a composer living in Brooklyn, NY. I have several pages on My Space, this one to introduce my more abstract and broader orchestrated work that I am marketing for soundtrack purposes, my solo guitar creations page, another showcasing an acoustic guitar experimental duo I co-chair with composer/guitarist Daryl Shawn called Chinapainting and a couple of past projects with other artists.
The pieces on this page make use of several different technologies including looping devices, organic sampling and manipulation (meaing taking a sound from the guitar from a mic and altering it's characteristics), synth/keyboards and effects. For many years I worked primarily with an unprocessed or minimal effects acoustic guitar in the spirit and style of my influences - Michael Hedges, Will Ackerman, Ralph Towner, Leo Kottke, John Fahey and others.
In the last couple of years I have returned somewhat to earlier influences such as Robert Fripp, David Torn and have been experimenting more with effects in my music as well as playing piano again, something I did a lot of in college but got away from.
My quest in this page is to reach out to film and video artists seeking atmospheric, original music for their projects. Contact me here on My Space.

Hi Jim!
Thans for your nice comment. I was also pretty touched by "Clocks". One of the nicest guitar arrangements I've ever heard. One could compare your music with works of impressionist painters, because it is based on impressions, expression of a moment and a certain state of soul. Referring to house concerts, they are quite popular in Germany. You can get more information about it at www.house-musik.de.
Whish you all the best and looking forward to hear your new pieces.

departure, to hear this live, on the instrument you are so connected to, would only be highlighted by watching how you do this on the guitar. Is it in a tuning? ultimately, the content is rich, and story telling like. what joy that you would write music and others would be motivated to grab a guitar..
love the synth strings on, are you there, and the piano, did you choose not to sustain any of the notes? the content is very smart here...
one gets the impression that you are prolific, if only you had the tie to finish all your ideas, into excellent works like these.
alex de grassi would enjoy 'departure'...
thanks so much for your warm comments and generosity.
jim, thank you for spending time listening, I will do that completely with your pieces a bit later today.
promise

also, the critique is interesting, because, I probably choose not to send American, and these other influences, I am happy they can be heard... the major 7th chord probably brings to mind the impressionistic feel, and french feel too.
Michelle LeGrand, wish I could compose more lyrically, like brian song, or circles,
Claude Bolling is really the master of all the french....
still working and morphing, ange de shane, , ,
and an orchestrator is on it too, can't wait for real strings instead of the synth.
promise, back to immerse myself, in your music.... which tends I believe to be very honest, from the little I heard, and that's the first thing we always hear.
Thank you for your music and for your friendship..............................................................................................................................................
