Things are going pretty well, but sometimes I feel like Daffy Duck in this cartoon:
Duck Amuck
Music
Sonic Youth, Pixies, Nirvana, Velvet Underground, TV on the Radio, Wipers, Husker Du, Neil Young, Bob Mould, Love ( terrible name for a band, but they were good ), Those nuggets box sets, Television ( the band ), Beck, Sugar, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Vaselines and a whole lot more.
The guitar player from Television, Richard Lloyd is touring with that bands drummer. I went to one of their shows, and it was really good. Too bad there were only about fifty people in the audience. I highly recommend that you check him out if you get the chance. I also see Sonic Youth, 311, Incubus, Jane's Addiction Jonathan Richman and The Offspring will all be in Kansas City this Summer. So it looks like a busy concert season.
Check out my play list a little bit below.
Here's a fantastic video to one of my favorite songs
Death Cab For Cutie - Summer Skin ..
Movies
Raiders of the Lost Ark, Network, Pulp Fiction, Royal Tenebaums, Rushmore, M, Citizen Kane, Horse Feathers, American Pie, Real Genius, Seconds, Frankenstein, My favorite video stores in Kansas City are Hollywood at Home, and the Video Exchange. I try not to go to Blockbuster; they are evil. You can add The Video Exchange to the list of things that I blame Blockbuster for killing! It's closing and now the best video store in Johnson County, KS is far and away Hollywood at Home.
Television
Has anyone else noticed that there's about ten minutes of commcericals for every half an hour of TV? That's a whole lot more than there used to be. But sommetimes I'll still watch:
The Simpsons ( The first several years especially ), 60 Minutes, King of the Hill, Law and Order, St. Elsewhere, The Prisoner, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Shield and Breaking Bad.
Books
The Fletch books are my favorite novel series. Gregory McDonald's other books are good too.
I have a weakness for Dashiell Hammett and Cornell Woolrich. Lately I've redisocvered Ed McBain and picked up a copy of King of Methelhem by Mark Lindquist ( because I really liked another of his books.)
I really believe that everyone should read Fast Food Nation; especially parents. Sometimes I read books covering politics. That, and I like to read about rock n roll. Our Band Could Be Your Life being a recent favorite.
Heroes
I need to come up with some people here. Ask me later.
