Hold on… wait a minute!! I know what you’re thinking: oh God not another rapper! Well rest assured, Steve Senat also known to the music world as alter egos K-illz (producer & composer) and Mr. S. Dot (lyricist & songwriter) is far from the mundane, bottom of the barrel music acts the public has been subjected to in the past few years. The New York native, born and raised in Flatbush Brooklyn first discovered music at the age of 2. “I had the canisters of Quaker Oats upside down beating on them like congo drums while moms was cooking in the kitchen ...I was trying to get my Ricky Ricardo on (laughs). I've been playing the piano since I was 4 years old...playing classical music by the age of 7 or 8.”
At the age of 5 he was introduced to the art of freestyling by his cousins who were heavily submerged in hip hop culture. “I asked how was he doing that and he said just make the words rhyme.” That simplistic approach evolved into an intricate blueprint of melodies and music. By the time he was in high school he had the game down packed. He was a member of a group called On-Slaught and was mentioned in the Source Magazine after entering a city talent show. With Influences like Al Green, Patty Labelle, Anita Baker, Earth Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, Stevie Wonder, Issac Hayes, Lionel Richie, 2Pac, BIG, Public Enemy, and Wu-Tang Clan music became more than a hobby as his love for the art grew uncontrollably.
Making his way to Pittsburgh, Pa, through an associate he was introduced to personnel in management at an independent record label called Meanstreet Entertainment. Steve was asked by the CEO to come to Pittsburgh to write for an upcoming group, “Crave”. He has written several songs for the group such as So Serious and Gimme the Word.
“I'm here because of 2 things; I'm hard-headed as hell and God’s will. I just don't know when to take a knee / quit/ or say I'll take the L.... Even when labels were like we'll pass on your music I thought something was wrong with them not me...and that just told me to go harder because I'm better than the average...God has given me strength and health, all I need to accomplish anything I want to do....I could've been up out of here a long time ago but He looks out for babies, fools and people that fall in between that are special!” His music is universal, unaltered by the current times and radio station brainwashing.
“The proof is in the music--- no smoke and mirrors--- no gimmicks--- just good music.”
