I mean I gotta say the main influence in my life is God. He is and should be the backbone in everyones life.
I feel like the music influence I have had are 2pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Snoop and Dre. These artist helped me to discover the ability to put poetry to a beat and form a music called RAP. These are some Christain Rap groups/individuals who have made an impact on me both with my music and with my life. Artist like T-bone, KJ-52, Cross Movement, Grits, te'luvv these are groups/individuals that understand the power of music and realize the truth needs to be told in the Music and the only truth is Jesus Christ. And then we must give love to the pioneers of the hip hop game like Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, and LL Cool J. I mean without them hip hop would not even be possible
An industry at its turning point desperate to find someone that speaks to its audience. A culture obsessed with a ‘keep it real’ mind state. Sift through several different artists and you’ll usually get either one or the other. Kyle “K-Dub” Woelber will not only answer both calls, but also interject his own Northwestern flavor.
Growing up in his hometown of Kennewick, WA, his mother filled the air with the sounds of Huey Lewis & The News, Kenny Loggins, & Garth Brooks. Outside those walls, his ears were captivated by 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G. & Snoop Dogg. His grandfather played guitar for the country western band Little Wayne and Big Wayne from the 1960s through the 1980s.. Meanwhile his best friends were gang members, exposing K-Dub to drugs, guns, & various temptations of the world. Both sides of the spectrum had a hand in shaping his childhood & eventually, his musical direction. K-Dub first tried his hand at writing rhymes in the 4th grade. That passion soon spawned freestyle ciphers among his friends and performing at talent shows. In 2002, while entering his freshman year in college is when K-Dub began writing and recording music seriously.
His early recordings consisted of bars about athletes, shooting hoops, and other harmless hobbies. Soon he began to focus on girls, money, clubs, and drugs. As he puts it, he was “writing just to write, not understanding the power those words had”. In 2005, K-Dub made the life altering decision to give his life to Christ. “I had always believed in God, but I never made Him important in my life. I just always went through the motions of being a Christian and did the status quo thing.” After being invited to a youth conference, God made Himself very real to K-Dub on the event’s final night.
After seeing the impact music had on his life as well as millions of others, he realized that in order to please God he had to submit his gift and make his music Christ centered. In 2006 he released his first project “Unqualified Soldier”. The CD spread like wildfire throughout the northwest and opened doors to perform at several venues monthly in and outside of the church. He was able to perfect his craft & most importantly according to him, “it allowed me to give kids something positive to put in their ipods rather than what’s out there”.
In October 2008, K-Dub released the follow up “Spiritual Frontline”. The album’s theme was based off Ephesians 6:10-20, dealing with spiritual warfare and “putting on the armor of God”. With songs such as “Cross on Your Back”, “Get Low”, and “The King Is Coming”, K-Dub brings a very in your face style of teaching, without chastising the listener. His ultimate goal is reaching today’s youth, which he feels is being attacked by the enemy without even knowing it. “Hip hop as a culture allows you to relate to the kids. You can give them what they know and deliver the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the same time”.
In addition to making music, K-Dub has a degree in education and is pursuing teaching.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. "- Nelson Mandela
