"One day I got a call from Alex shouting in my ear : “I found an abandoned pool!!!! It’s killer!!! You guys gotta see it!!!”
I must admit that when I hung up I told to myself that this young 16 teenager full of scum and hormones had exaggerated a bit… We all were 16 some day hu? Well, here I am on my sketchy motorcycle with our wild spot founder on the back to check the 8th wonder of the world…
What we find first is a barrier blocking the access to a dirt road going up… Excellent, it’s going to be easy to carry everything to the spot… We follow the road lost in the country, we go up, up, and then, Holy Grail, just on the side of the road an old pool with the right dimensions.
It is half buried with dirt and stones and dead trees, but the ground has a perfectly smooth surface, and moreover, the landscape is just unreal… Can’t explain it with words, you have to see it by yourself…
We start the cleaning job to get a pool like 5 feet high lost on a hill. The problem is that there is not that much dirt around, so it was quite uneasy to prepare the trannies. But slowly, we brought enough dirt to prepare the whole bowl. Then we started to break the ground to prepare the junction with the trannies, even with a generator and two sketchy electric hammers it didn’t go fast. And after a bit both hammers were dead.
Jipé, him again, found a killer concrete saw and the work went on much faster. It took us like 2 o 3 week ends to have it done, and it’s been crazy every time to carry on our back all the tools, generator, concrete saw, etc, but it was worth it… At least the junction won’t break at all. The spot started to look like something more real…
We lately found the solution to open the barrier, so now we bring water, sand and cement bags with the car. Except one or two neighbours that went to ask what the fuck we were doing, nobody comes up there, so it’s cool.
We wanted to put pool coping for this spot, so we tried to get it but it’s way too expensive for us (any euro we get goes in cement bags). So if you can’t afford it, DO IT YOURSELF MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!! We built our own frames and we made our own blocks. It’s not top quality finished, but at least we have pool coping. And it grinds, after all that’s all we need…
We started to make a trannie, but the result was not good : too radical! And we made a fucked up job with concrete, it tends to slip down due to its own weight when fresh, so we ended with a kinked trannie with the top making some waves… Well, a big shit.
The second one was way better, we improved the concrete job and the result was what we expected to be. We also made stairs, like pool stairs. The work keeps on and the spot goes on…
If you have enough motivation to come and get dirty with us, buy a cement bag and join us, you scumbag. Check the blog, we put the days when we go work up there. J’avoue que quand j’ai raccroché je me suis dit que ce jeune adolescent plein de foutre et d’hormones avait certainement un peu exagéré… On a tous eu 16 ans, non ?
Bref, me voilà quelques jours plus tard sur ma pétrolette en train de trimballer notre fougueux découvreur de spot, en route vers la 8ème merveille du monde…
Pour commencer, une barrière devant un chemin de terre… Super, ça va être facile pour monter le matos ! On suit le chemin en pleine garrigue (végétation typique de Provence pour les têtes de bite), on monte, on monte, et là, ô miracle, se dévoile devant nous un vieux bassin ovale aux dimensions plus que correctes.
Il est à moitié rempli de terre et de gravats, mais le sol est nickel, et, surtout, le lieu est hallucinant… J’en dis pas plus sur le paysage, vous verrez par vous même…
Le travail de nettoyage commence et on se retrouve avec un bassin de 1,5m de haut perdu dans la colline. Le problème de la garrigue c’est que c’est plutôt léger en terre… donc on a bien galéré pour trouver la terre nécessaire pour faire les remblais pour les courbes. Mais petit à petit, à coup de sauts, on a amené assez de terre pour faire toute la périphérie du bowl. Ensuite, on a commencé à piquoter la dalle pour faire les jonctions, mais ça avançait pas.
Jipé, encore lui, nous dégotte la pire disqueuse à béton… On a mis deux ou trois week-ends pour tout disquer, mais ça valait le coup. Les jonctions avec le sol sont nickelles et elles ne casseront pas. On s’est rendu fou à chaque fois pour monter tous les outils, le groupe, la disqueuse, etc, à pied…On s’est quand même fait chier pour faire le travail mais une fois terminé on était content, ça commençait à avoir de la gueule…
On a fini par trouver la combine pour ouvrir la barrière (en douce) et maintenant on monte le ciment, le sable et la flotte en caisse. C’est quand même plus sympa. A part quelques voisins qui parfois viennent un peu poser des questions, on est vraiment pépères.
On voulait avoir du coping de pool pour ce spot, alors on a cherché à en acheter mais c’est trop cher pour nos petits moyens. Si tu peux pas acheter ce qu’il te faut, DO IT YOURSELF MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!! On a fabriqué quelques moules et on s’est fabriqué nos propres margelles. C’est pas de la top finition, mais au moins on a ce qu’on veut. Et ça grinde, après tout, c’est tout ce qu’on veut…
On a fait une première courbe mais le résultat était pas top : trop rad ! Et on a merdé quand on a posé le béton, il a tendance à s’affaisser sous son propre poids et ça donne un aspect de tôle ondulée quand ça sèche. Bref, c’est pas top.
La deuxième était carrément mieux faite, on a amélioré la technique de pose du béton et le rendu est nickel. On a fait des marches aussi, comme dans un pool. Le travail continu, le spot avance…
