What is Prayer in the Square?

It’s Time to Pray!

Fifteen thousand people representing over 200 churches gathered with us for Prayer in the Square in 2008 to pray for the nation.

On September 20, 2009, we will be gathering again in Times Square to pray. We invite churches representing all denominations to gather with us for this event.

Prayer in the Square is an opportunity for all believers in Jesus Christ to gather together under one banner, for one hour, and pray for the future of our city and our nation.

A choir of over 180 voices will sing worship songs, and individuals will pray at intervals for approximately three minutes each. The entire event will be simulcast on the News Astrovision screen at One Times Square, on several radio stations. There will also be a live webcast at nycprayer.org.

I am so fortunate to have your friendship!

I've been so busy lately.
I'm doing a lot of writing.
It's great to help others.
In fact, we are commanded to do so.
But sometimes we need a break.
To find some "Me" time.

In this day and age it seems so many people are rushing. Everyone's in a hurry.
Jesus called us to follow Him in action but also to inaction--to get some rest! (Mark: 6: 30-31 N.I.V.)
God created rest in creation and devoted a Holy Day to rest and relaxation. In fact, God Himself
rested on the seventh day and made rest itself Holy.

We modern people have trouble resting, relaxing and seeking serenity in solitude. We tend to soothe ourselves with people, activity and noise. Yet we are also meant to be still. Jesus invited his disciples, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." He said this because "so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat." (Mark: 6:31 N.I.V.) Nowadays, the way we "grab a bite" and "eat on the run", it is no wonder we have so many stomach disorders. We need to slow down.

Do something nice for yourself this weekend.

I’m going through my friends’ list one prayer at a time, lifting your needs and that of your family before the throne of God. Here is a reminder from God’s Word:

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

To me this seems an awesome ambition – to love others as Christ loves us. We cannot do it in our own power, but only as we allow the fountain of His love to bubble up in our hearts and flow out to those around us. May your fountain overflow more and more each day as you grow in the certainty of His love for you.

I PRAYED FATHER, YOU SHOULDN'T TAKE THE BELIEVERS OUT OF THE WORLD. John 17:15

It is a sweet and blessed event which will occur to all believers in God's own time; the going home to be with Jesus Christ. In a few more years the Lord's soldiers, who are now fighting the good fight of faith will have done with conflict, and have entered into the joy of their Lord? But although Christ prays that His people may eventually be with Him where He is, He does not ask that they may be taken at once away from this world to heaven. He wishes them to stay here. Yet how frequently does the wearied pilgrim put up the prayer, O that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away and be at rest; but Christ does not pray like that, He leaves us in His Father's hands, until, like shocks of corn fully ripe, we shall each be gathered into our Master's garner. Jesus does not plead for our instant removal by death, for to abide in the flesh is needful for others if not profitable for us. He asks that we may be kept from evil, but He never asks for us to be admitted to the inheritance in glory till we are of full age.

Christians often want to die when they have any trouble. Ask them why, and they tell you, Because we would be with the Lord. We fear it is not so much because they are longing to be with the Lord, as because they desire to get rid of their troubles; else they would feed the same wish to die at other times when not under the pressure of trial. They want to go home, not so much for the Savior's company, as to be at rest. Now it is quite right to desire to depart if we can do it in the same spirit that Paul did, because to be with Christ is far better, but the wish to escape from trouble is a selfish one. Rather let your care and wish be to glorify God by your life here as long as He pleases, even though it is in the midst of toil, and conflict, and suffering, and leave Him to say when it is enough.
