Influences
Life's best ...
God has blessed me with a wonderful family. My parents, my boys, my brother and sister, their children. I'm now Grandpa to two beautiful kids. Our Christian roots run deep and we are pleased to share it openly.
When we say we are a Christian family, we aren't simply saying that we attend a Christian denominational church of some sort, what we mean is that we know and understand, by a conscious choice, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God and is the one who authors our very life.
The most quoted verse in the New Testament, John 3:16 should be quoted with verse 17 that says, "God did not send His Son to this world to condemn it but that we might be made safe and sound through Him. AMP
The Bible is not a book about religion. The Bible is given to bring us abundant life, to the full and overflowing, perfect peace, nothing missing and nothing broken.
Musical influences ...
Many incredible tenor singers have filled the sounds of great Gospel Quartets across the years. As a young man I listened to the voices of Bill Shaw and Rosie Rosell of the Blackwood Brothers and Statesmen.
The amazing Jim Murray of the Imperials had a profound influence on the way I listened to tenor singers. The Imperials changed the way the Chords arranged quartet music. Other great tenor singers like Bobby Clark and Bill Baize added that operatic flavor that still dominates my own style today.
I love all kinds of music. My bio reveals that I spent several years singing Rock'n Roll with that great vocal group name from the 60s, the VOGUES. I have many great friends in show business, rock, country, theater. Sorry, I have a tough time with Rap and Urban, especially if it is violent or demeaning to women. Have you heard IL Divo? Wow!
Although I sing "Southern Gospel" my quartet foundation began when it was still simply called "quartet music or Gospel quartets" the southern distinction had not yet been leveraged. But the Chords tracked the way of the dreaded "contemporary music" of the 70s and we found ourselves outside the mainstream of quartet music.
I love CCM and Praise and Worship Music, I don't care if it's "off the wall" or on the wall, as long as the name of the Lord is high and lifted up. You see, the Word tells us if He is high and lifted up, then HE will do the attracting ... John 12:32
Sounds Like
I've never been compared to anyone ... well one time someone said I sounded like Robert Goulet. He's a baritone and I'm a tenor ... STRANGE???
I have a big favor to ask. You see, most know me as ROYCE Taylor, the only people who know my real first name is “Lynn” are usually family members and friends from long ago. Sight unseen, as Lynn, I was always presumed female, imagine the surprise of my school teachers when they discovered I was a guy? I can think of two instances where this actually was an advantage for me. Once in Junior High, I was assigned to a girls gym class. That lasted about 2 minutes until the teacher discovered the error. Another time, also in high school, I was the only guy in biology class with a girl lab partner. She was HOT, too. But most of the time, getting phone calls for Ms. Lynn Taylor, or mail for Ms. Lynn Taylor, is just plain annoying.
Even now, if you search the web for Lynn Taylor, you’ll find they are women. By the same token, if you search Royce Taylor, you’ll find some other guy that isn't me. So it's become necessary for me to use my full name, Lynn Royce Taylor. But still, I don't make it a habit of telling people about my first name, so will you please help me keep this little secret between us? Thanks.
Lynn Royce Taylor timeline.
The Late 60s
As a junior in High School back in Columbiana, Ohio, David Musselman and I formed a singing duet we called the Gospel Chords. From the beginning we were singing nearly every weekend all over Ohio, PA, and West Virginia. In a mere three years we had expanded to a trio then a complete Gospel Quartet and were traveling around the nation, doing TV, radio, and recording albums.
The 70s
This continued for over 12 years and the members of the group were getting married and having children making it more difficult to continue touring. By this time I had two young boys of my own and another would come along soon after. The guys chose to disband and spend time with these new growing families.
The 80s
For about 10 years I wasn’t singing as a career but chose to work and raise my young family, as well. Those were difficult years and you can read how God sustained me during that time in my life.
The 90s
I joined the Vogues from Pittsburgh. During the late 60s the original four Vogues carved a niche in popular music that still sets a unique standard today. Great songs like, “You Are My Special Angel, Turn Around Look at Me, Five O’clock World, You’re The One,” and many more were chart topping favorites. I toured as tenor vocalist for this group until 1997 when I chose to return to my first love of Gospel Music and ministry.
2000 and beyond
2002 whisked me to Nashville, TN and back into Gospel Quartet music singing tenor once again. First with the famous Stamps Quartet, not only an old name in Gospel Music but one of the backup quartets for Elvis Presley in the 70s. 2006 I joined the Blackwood Brothers, as tenor with Ron, R.W. Blackwood, Jr., and family, and for the next 3 years the Toney Brothers.
Today
I’m pleased to say that God is using me as an evangelist and soloist. I'm now taking all the years of singing, marketing, promotion, business, media, and production and wrapping it in a package of music and message. I'm recording songs that I can really relate to and I believe you will too.
However, without my relationship to Jesus the Christ, the only begotten son of the true and living God, all of this would be in vain. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and life begins when you submit to God’s word and invite Jesus to be Lord. The Word of God will never fail you in anything you face in life. The Word of God will not only sustain you in the tough times, but it will shield you in future times. It is relative to any time, with answers for all time. God is the same yesterday, today and forever.
