A few years ago, Tom picked up a National steel Hawaiian guitar, the acoustic kind that was popular in the 20s and 30s, and taught himself to play by listening to old 78s. Rob, his musical companion for years, had one listen, dropped his drums and picked up a ukulele. They began writing originals that borrowed from all the swinging old styles -- not just Hawaiian -- and ended up a true band when Doug walked through the door with his bass, dragging a lifetime of jazz behind him. Nowadays, they perform originals and standards with rhythmic drive and inventive arrangements wherever people least expect it, which is pretty much everywhere.

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
