The Kansas City Premiere...
On May 10, 2007, there was a red-carpet premiere of the film in Kansas City, Missouri. The event was a special benefit for The Jennifer Ireland Foundation
The Kansas City premiere of The Wind That Shakes the Barley
was the second time in only a few months that Máirtín had the opportunity
to help support The Jennifer Ireland Foundation.
In February of 2007, on Valentine's Day and only shortly after Jennifer Ireland lost her own battle with cancer, Máirtín helped organize the first public benefit for The Jennifer Ireland Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri.
The official poster for the event, which was entitled Film Clips, is pictured below. Click on the image itself to

Fuchsia Band NEWS...
The Fuchsia Band 2008 USA Tour!
For the FOURTH SUMMER IN A ROW, Fuchsialand returns
to the USA! The lads will be headliners again this year
at the famous Milwaukee Irish Festival and will also be
bringing the spirit of Fuchsialand to NEW places in
America's Heartland!
"When you take a drink of water...
don't forget the ones who dug the well."
The Fuchsia Band would like to dedicate their tour to the memory
of the great, the incredible Tommy Makem. The photo above of the lads together with Tommy was taken just last year at the 2006 Milwaukee Irish Festival. Tommy was scheduled to appear once again this year at Milwaukee and will be sadly missed. A true performer, a true legend, Tommy helped "dig the well" so that so many others who would follow could drink from it. He was a pioneer, an amazing talent, and a wonderful man. Farewell, Tommy. Well done! Click the links below for more about Tommy, his life, and his music,
Rather than cancel Tommy's scheduled appearance at
the 2007 Milwaukee Irish Festival, the Makem
and Spain Brothers bravely forged ahead and the time
became a special tribute to Tommy's life, his music, and the
contributions he made to multiple generations of music lovers.
Máirtín had the honor of being invited onto the stage to
participate in this special tribute to Tommy. The photo
above was taken by Eimear Ryan. Click the image for
a LARGER version.
Thank You!...
The Fuchsia Band would like to express their special appreciation
to the following organizations for their kind help with this year's tour. Click

What people are saying about Máirtín...
"Male New Artist to Watch For in 2007!
Cork's Máirtín de Cógáin is a seanachie, and there

He is a wonderful, total entertainer.

"
Mairtin has really impressed me with his passion
and knowledge of the Irish tradition; be it singing, inventive bodhrán playing or storytelling.
The man has a natural, engaging way with people.
Mairtin is set for great things!

Film News...
The Wind That Shakes the Barley...
Máirtín plays the character Sean in
Ken Loach's new film The Wind That Shakes the Barley which won
the top award at the Cannes Film Festival for 2006. The trailer for the film is below. Can you spot him? Right next to Cillian Murphy when they are talking about "spys" (and many places besides). Note that he has no beard, short hair, and the camera adds 10 pounds! The film was released in the USA on March 16th, 2007, and is now playing all over the world. Check your local listings.
Óró Sé Do Beatha 'Bhaile...
One of the most stirring scenes in the film is when
Máirtín's character Sean is leading the
Flying Column of Irish freedom fighters towards a
confrontation with British Soldiers while singing the
inspiring song Óró Sé Do Beatha 'Bhaile, which
became the theme song for the entire movie.
