But still... I knew in my heart that Jesus said "I am THE way, THE truth, and THE Life. No one comes to the Father EXCEPT through me". Pretty cut & dried I'd say, how about you?

So, I thought, if I'm going to speak out against "The Secret", I really should watch the whole thing, because perhaps I just got the wrong impression from the trailer.

So, I sat down and watched the whole thing. Twice. And I was totally taken aback by it. The greed and self-centeredness expressed in that movie is mind-blowing! In fact it can best be expressed by the final words in the movie: "There is nothing you are supposed to do...Only what you want to do!" I don't know about you, but I'm sure glad my mom & dad didn't live by that statement!

Plus, "The Secret" really raised some questions for me... like

• If Abraham Lincoln knew "The Secret", why did his son die, his wife lose her mind, and he get assassinated? Did he "attract" these things into his life?
• If Martin Luther King knew "The Secret", why did he get assassinated? Was this his "powerful intention"?
• Why did they imply that someone like Isaac Newton, who wrote twice as much about the deity of Christ as he did about science, was involved with "The Secret"?
• Why did Mother Theresa live in abject financial poverty instead of just "attracting" riches for everyone around?

  In fact, I find it insulting that they would try to imply that someone as selfless as Mother Theresa would think "there is nothing you are supposed to do, only what you want to do!". Thank God she wanted something other than $3 million dollar homes and expensive toys.

  So the, the movie leads one to the book, right? Well, here is a quote from the book:

  From The Secret, p. 164: “You are God in a physical body. You are Spirit in the flesh. You are Eternal Life expressing itself as You. You are a cosmic being. You are all power. You are all wisdom. You are all intelligence. You are perfection. You are magnificence. You are the creator, and you are creating the creation of You on this planet.”

  Now, contrast that with what the Bible says:

  Romans 1:20-23, 25: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, And by them the glory of the eternal God was changed and made into the image of corruptible man, and of birds and beasts and things which go on the earth. Because by them the true word of God was changed into that which is false, and they gave worship and honor to the thing which is made, and not to him who made it.”

  So, personally, I choose to stay away from "The Secret".

  FINAL THOUGHT:

  • "Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. (Phil 4:8-9)"
  • " Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. (James 1:2-8)"
