MATTHEW BROOKSHIRE: Best Friend

"A joyful and thoughtful songwriter, Matthew brings an audience energetic melodies with folk-pop flair, and a uniquely high tenor vocal delivery. A beautiful sounding violin accompaniment by Erika Kapin was the cherry on the Sunday."--JezebelMusic.com

Matthew Brookshire is a songwriter and performer based in Brooklyn, NY. His new release "Best Friend" features 10 original songs—most of which were developed during Matthew’s many live performances at NYC venues, including the Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall and Caffe Vivaldi. The album includes tracks produced by Matthew’s frequent collaborator Curtis Moore, and features guest vocals by singer-songwriter Kelli Rae Powell and Dilia Jelen. Matthew’s onstage partner, violinist Erika Kapin, can also be heard on two tracks.

In 2007, Matthew’s song “Best Friend” was chosen as a finalist in the New York Songwriters Circle’s annual songwriting contest, which culminated in a live performance at the legendary Bitter End. Also in 2007, Matthew was chosen to attend the Northeast conference for campus activities bookers, which lead to college performances at the University of Connecticut, Rider University, and Southern Vermont College.

Matthew’s music can be heard in the Todd Solondz film Palindromes, starring Ellen Barkin and Jennifer Jason Leigh, which played in the New York, Telluride, Venice and Toronto film festivals. Matthew has co-written (with Curtis Moore) songs for other artists, including 1 Billboard dance artist Kevin Aviance and R&B singer Ari Gold.

In 2006, Matthew's "Wedding Song" was named an Honorable Mention in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. "Wedding Song" and "I Reveal My Heart" (both from the album 8 Songs) were added to Sirius OutQ radio and appeared in the Top 20. Matthew has performed showcases for EMI Records, Jezebel Music, the BMI Songwriter in Residence series and the International Pop Overthrow Festival. In June of 2006, Matthew was featured on the cover of Indie Sounds NY.

Performances in NYC include: Rockwood Music Hall, Crash Mansion, Pianos, the Bitter End, Caffe Vivaldi and Pete's Candy Store.

Matthew's debut CD 8 SONGS is available at CDBaby.com and on Matthew Brookshire .

Hey Matthew,

Just came by to listen to Mexico and decided to sing it at my next show. That song has always stayed with me.

Also, the video for I Fall Out is one of the best indie videos I've ever seen. Really.

Peace.

Matthew,
Thanks again for coming down to Chapel Hill to play with us! It was such a great night. John and I still hear your back up vocals to Not Half of Us, Bluest Sky and Lion's share. You were right in the pocket!! And the tamborine was a nice addition.
I'm still grooving on your new disc. Beautiful stuff!
Hope to see you again soon.

haha fabulous. i won't even be there, unfortunately! boo! but thanks for PLAYING at java and jive! i'm sure it was quite the treat on a sunday night. haha

oh, ps. i sing, i'm a voice student. i don't paint or do lawn work. i'm sorry we were being sarcastic assholes. and i enjoyed our conversation about the hungry man dinners. my friend jenna thought she offended you because you fell silent after she spoke, so apologies for that as well. perhaps we will meet again. we can chill in the city, or better yet i can go to one of your shows. haha

okay...that ps was longer than my message.

the end.xx
